Car insurance recommendations please

Need the wisdom of mumsnet! I just bought a new used hybrid car and find my insurance company increased the price to a dramatical level by 2.5 times despite I have decades of ncd. Enough is enough they increased my insurance price by lots then I had to negotiate every year to get it back down!

Any good suggestions to share?

ps: Post this on the 30 days section but no responses so far.

Get onto confused.com or Compare the Market. I use these and usually end up changing insurers every year for the best price and cover.

Thanks @TheDogsMother , but I ve found comparison websites confusing! Because they give such long lists!

Privilege. They may cost more, however they have excellent service. My wife died recently, and I was a named driver on her policy. As such, I couldn't drive her car after her death.

I called to tell them. Their response was "you have enough to deal with at the moment, let us take this one. We will transfer her policy to you for the remainder, and that's one less thing you need to think about". Absolute stars. There was almost a year remaining on the policy too.

That sort of service is worth a lot.

@HappiestSleeping, i m so sorry to hear your lost. Hope you re keeping well.

Privilege, thanks will look into it. Are they good with their services eg when there was an accident? Have you any experience? Hope you won’t need to contact them this year.🤞

It's madness not to use comparison sites and market wide consumer ratings. You might get a number of quotes but you aren't going to look at any more than the first four or five lowest prices are you?

Car insurance prices are specific to your unique circumstances and relying on a random person's good or bad experience is a bit bonkers. If you really can't do it yourself at least go to a proper broker

Agree, use something like compare the market - Tesco came out far and away the cheapest for me, when comparing like for like with my now previous insurance company, they came in £100 less.

I m checking a few. LV= seemed way cheaper my last insurance company.

@SoapyDrama , thanks but I never use a broker before. I didn’t know they still exist this days. How do they help?

Thank you.

I would expect that their level of service would extend to all aspects of insurance. I haven't made a claim with them though, and my wife didn't either.

I always use comparison sites but also check reviews on Trust Pilot. It takes time but I need to know that the cover is there if I need it. Having had to make a claim a number of years ago and being badly let down by one of the biggest companies I have learned the hard way that paying a little more is worth it. Most of the cheapest quotes are underwritten by the bigger companies.
DD works for Aviva in triage so she is the first point of contact for a potential claim. Aviva underwrites Quote Me Happy and she regularly takes calls from people who are insured via Quote Me Happy but the only way a claim can be submitted is via email; not great in an emergency.

ATM I thinking LV= which has good reviews and it is not the cheapest. Don’t know what they are like. Emails only communication is not good for me. I m old fashioned i like to be able to speak over a phone with the reps.
