Esure - insuring provisional license

Esure tell me they can’t add my son to my insurance until he is 17 plus 1 month.
they say it’s not part of their underwriting criteria.
has anyone else heard of this?
is it possible to take out an additional policy with another insurer with just him as a provisional driver?
my Esure policy expires 6 days after he will be 17 plus 1 month so I’d rather wait to move insurer then.

Apologies if I’ve misunderstood but given he can’t drive at all until 17, would it not be easier to just wait a month and then add him onto your insurance? If it’s integral that he starts learning immediately then just do instructor lessons once a week for that first month.

i wanted him insured over Christmas whilst we have time together to practise. Mid-January onwards is very busy.

I discovered that Collingwood insurance have a very good policy for provisional drivers so I have purchased that to start from the day he turns 17.
