My criteria are:

comfy enough for long drives
not too long, my parking place isn’t that large
cool looking.

abs NO SUVs

dont mind whether 2 or 4 door.

ideally automatic.

budget around 45k to 50k.

no kids or dogs to worry about

i ould have gone for a Mercedes c class coupe, but it’s been replaced by the CLE which doesn’t get great reviews.

any advice gratefully received, I’m giving myself a headache

That's a mega budget, are you leasing or pcp from new? How long do you intend to keep the car and what's the maximum number of people your looking to carry in it?
Would you consider EV or does it need to be petrol/hybrid?

A very late model Audi TT quattro might fit the bill at nearly new from a main dealership. Or in a similar coupe vein a BMW M240i drive. Less fast versions are available in the same coupe style 😎

my car is perfect for you!. Audi SQ2. Cool as fuck, fast, nimble, a joy in every way.

Mumblechum0 · 01/11/2025 18:00

Sorry I thought no one had answered me! It’ll be cash. Just me and DH, occasional passengers.

I tend to keep my cars for a very long time, I’ll check out that Audi, thank you.

i do like Audi A3s, I test drove a bmw series yesterday but it felt too big in terms of parking in my weirdly shaped driveway

Yes cos the sqa2 is perfectly sized and won’t give you that nasty big bmw feeling !

Mumblechum0 · 01/11/2025 19:21

Thanks, problem is I’m looking for a saloon, but thanks anyway 😊

The a3 saloon is a good option

SybilEsmeGytha · 02/11/2025 11:57

The problem is that cars just keep getting bigger and bigger with each new iteration!! Small saloons and their coupe variants are becoming a rare breed in favour of the suv takeover too. @Mumblechum0 bit leftfield but what about a lexus RC coupe, think they finished their production run this year. Mercedes cla saloon might also be an option similar to the a3 saloon?

It's not released just yet but the new Honda prelude might also fit the bill!

New Countryman ?

Lincslady53 · 10/11/2025 19:28

We have just ordered a Cupra Born EV. For your budget you could get the top of the range VZ, very quick. Some excellent deals on EVs at the moment as manufacturers struggle to hit their targets to avoid huge fines. The largest battery model has a range of around 350 miles

shuddacuddadidnt · 10/11/2025 20:05

Unpopular opinion possibly, but have you tried asking ChatGPT for suggestions given your own must haves?

I drive a saloon C300 and chose it for comfort and safety, acceleration speed and intelligent lighting system. The reviews at the time said that it had a noisy engine but this wasn't enough to bother me. I've had it for 7 years now without problems and plan to keep it for ten.

What Car gives the new CLE 4/5 rating and Cons are:

  • Not as sharp as a BMW 4 Series
  • -CLE 300's engine sounds a bit agricultural at idle
  • -Grabby brake pedal response in CLE 300e

One reviewer likes the tech, another doesn't. I say get one to try for a day and see what you think.

Mumblechum0 · 10/11/2025 22:30

Thank you! I’ve ordered a BMW M series with all possible bells and whistles, will hopefully be built by end January.

thanks for all advice x
