Windscreen Repair

Flimingo · 06/07/2025 13:10

A small crack in windscreen likely by stone.

local glass repair will charge 55£ but said it will leave a scar.

awaiting Auto-glass quote.

should I tell my insurer and get it done through them by claim with potential increase in my premium or should do it local? My voluntary repair access is 20£ and replace my access is £140.

any advise/experience??

Windscreen repair is unlikely to affect premium but double check with your provider.

Thanks.can I discuss it with insurer?(will they put it on my record as “accident” if I don’t even make a claim?(TBH insurance system is SCAM)

Where is the crack? If the 'scar' will be in your driving line of sight the car will fail its MOT. We have windscreen cover on our insurance and when we got a big stone chip just paid the excess, the windscreen was replaced and our premiums were unaffected. Check your policy as you might be covered..

I m covered with repair voluntary access of 20£ and replacement access of £140.

crack is on left passenger mid-screen(1inch). Likely repairable.

Question is should I do local repair(costing 55£ ) or make a claim for repair through insurer?

Every time we have used our windscreen cover, repairs have been free and full replacement attracts only the windscreen excess (minimal, from £20 to £60).
NCD not affected.

One of our claims was substantial, new windscreen for our Moho just shy of £4k and it cost us less than £50 excess!
