5 seater car

My partner and I are going to start fertility treatment over the summer, and trying to think ahead should it be successful. We currently have a 5 seater car (Ford KA+) but it isn’t big enough for three car seats. We currently have two 4.5 year olds and they are still in 5 point harness car seats, so the middle seat has zero space for a person let alone another car seat.

we have been googling cars and honestly we don’t know what we are looking at really. My partner isn’t confident driving an SUV, so I guess we want to know if anyone knows of a car that would be suitable but without it being too big for her to drive. I do not drive so getting a second car isn’t an option.

thank you!

VW Tiguan ?

You might also want to look at the Citroën Berlingo or Peugeot Rifter — they’re not huge like SUVs but have wide back seats that can easily fit three car seats side by side, and they’re generally easy to drive and park!

Agree with the above - we hired this for a trip with 2 kids in big car seats and it was great. DH might be able to test drive one to see how he feels about it.

My partner really isn’t keen on the idea of a massive car/mini van/SUV. It’s becoming quite problematic as the only option seems to be a 7 seater but she doesn’t want to, as she then thinks we won’t be able to fit a pram and suitcase in etc but we must be able to otherwise nobody would go anywhere.
bumping for some more advice if possible! Peugeot did have a car with three full seats in the back but that’s no longer on the motorbility scheme which is what we are on, they only have the 5008 which isn’t three full seats.

i couldn’t fit 3 full size car seats (kids aged 4,2,newborn) in the back of any ‘normal’ sized car.

Your options are

  • baby car seat in the front passenger and adult between 2 car seats of a normal sized car
  • moving your (then) 5yo to slim high backed boosters
  • 7 seater with one of the rear seats folded down giving you a bit more boot space
lovemetomybones · 06/05/2025 22:27

7 seaters won’t help because the boot seats will not take car seats or adults.

there are companies that make a three seater car seat to fit most cars but I understand that they are quite expensive. But probably cheaper than a new car.

I have four kids and a tarraco. IRS the easiest car in the world to drive. Cameras, to help you back up, it even parks itself

Have a look at multi Mac. It fits onto your back seat but optimises space so it should work in most cars. I think people often sell them on once their kids are older

Thanks all! We have gone for a Ford Capri, and a Multimac. Thank you! I was a bit sceptical about the multimac but have since seen it has been crash tested. Thanks :)
