Looking for the above, quite like the look of the Ford Puma, anyone have any experience of owning it, or have any other suggestions.

Puma is a good choice. Of a similar size also look at a Toyota yaris cross and CHR and maybe a skoda Kamiq. Volvo xc40 or cupra formentor for something mid size and slightly plusher.

What's the budget, annual mileage and expected length of ownership?

The Puma is tiny though.

Up to 14-15k, not high mileage at all, mostly working from home, and errands.
Keep as long as still decent.

If you're going to keep for ideally more than 3 or 4 years I'd go japanese in that case for good tech spec and long term reliability. In addition to the Toyotas I mentioned have a look at a Honda HRV, mazda cx30 and even a lexus ux. Comparing these against the puma might be a good approach.
