Hi all,
I work in the community. I need to claim my mileage. I don’t have business insurance and I need it to claim my mileage. Do you think work will ask me for proof?

Possibly. Read your employer's policy on using your own car.

BreezyDuck · 08/02/2025 23:16

It states I need to have business insurance to claim mileage

If you are using your car for business and you are only insured for social, domestic and pleasure, you will invalidate your policy. You need a policy that covers business use or you will not be covered in case of accident.

We need to send proof of business insurance before we can claim, so yes I would expect so.

Overthebow · 08/02/2025 23:33

Yes they’ll likely ask you for proof if it states that. We have to upload our insurance document before we can claim.

My work ask for proof you have business use covered on your policy before paying mileage expenses.
Why don't you have it? You are driving uninsured when you are driving for work. Just phone your insurance company and ask them to add it, it's not usually very much to add it, a few insurers I've known will even add it for free.

Have your work not asked for proof of insurance? At my work all these documents have to get added to the system before we can claim mileage.
My insurance didn't cost me any more to add it

Just add it, it will cost very little, mine charges me nothing for up to 1000 miles per year business use
