Omg what have they done?!

They'll go under in a matter of months I think!

It's like a little Britain skit taking the piss out of Drag Race or something.

So weird.

And the logo is such a downgrade

Pat888 · 22/11/2024 09:59

When in some quarters Trumps success was put down to blatant wokeism by the democrats - but of course when you leave the polling station no one dares to say that‘s the reason they voted for Trump - then here Jaguar are with these ridiculous ads….. I wonder what Jeremy Clarkson’s response is.

MillyMichaelson · 22/11/2024 09:59

The logo is still the leaper, just flipped and refined.

If you mean the word mark it's abysmally awfully astoundingly bad 😂

I love that a heritage brand decided to go for a whole new look. I would usually think it brave and I’d be prepared to listen. This however looks like the Benetton team hit mid life crisis and adopted fetish gear.

And the angry bloke wielding a sledgehammer is just creepy frankly.

😂

AgnesX · 22/11/2024 10:01

I think the classic logo makes people (me) think buyers/owners are middle aged men in double breasted suits. The ads had the weirdest looking bunch of people but you can't get further away from the middle aged stereotype if you tried. Which is the point.

But that's so done! The 'biker pulls off their helmet and it's a woman who shakes her long hair out, thus relegating her to a sex object as always' thing.

1, yes, that's the point. Taking jag back to its old school image
2, The Bond is a woman, and obviously so right from the start. No reveal. The tellytubby is a sexy sidekick of indeterminate gender.

chollysawcutt · 22/11/2024 10:09

They just all look so mean. And joyless. And confrontational. It feels like they want to start something. And by that, I mean a fight. The road rage energy is strong in this group.

GhostoftheMountain · 22/11/2024 10:10

@AgnesX the people in the Ad are not weird or shocking though are they - it's just a repetition of genre that is getting quite passé now. Christ how long has Sam Smith being going around in this get up.

It's a bit cringe that they think this is innovative or cool. It just makes them a laughing stock - like someone has said to Chat GPT - make me an advert with androgynous looking people of mixed ages, races and gender - put them in neon colour fetish wear and ask them to express themselves through the medium of modern dance.

oldwhyno · 22/11/2024 10:12

There is definitely a risk this image will put their traditional market off, and I can't really imagine they'll replace it with the kind of new market this campaign might attract.

😆I want that one! I mean, any other car but a fucking JAG! 😆

LikeWhoUsesTypewritersAnyway · 22/11/2024 10:15

Thank goodness common sense is prevailing now, and most of the posters on here this morning, are agreeing the ad is grim as fuck, and a bad idea. And will very likely put people off buying a Jaguar!

I am struggling to fathom how and why ANYone thinks this ad is a good idea!

MillyMichaelson · 22/11/2024 10:16

And how would that be a rebrand then?

As I pointed out above, in the 60s and 70s Jag were racy and sexy and pretty out there. I think the pipe and slippers thing was actually just what they fell into, and now they're trying to go back to their innovative roots.

Maybe they didn't nail it, but I suspect that's the rationale and what was in the brief.

MillyMichaelson · 22/11/2024 10:17

Sorry that was to @OooPourUsACupLove I forgot to tag you!

Yeah it definitely has gone into a bit of a weird place.

PowerTulle · 22/11/2024 10:22

I think somehow it would have worked better if they’d been more expressive and happy looking. Joy might have injected some humor and tongue in cheek vibes. The fact that they’re all so painfully grim faced and serious automatically dates it because this aesthetic just isn’t edgy any more. We get forms of drag advertising everything now, it’s so mainstream it’s wallpaper.

I think the new price point will count almost all of us out of buying a Jaguar - they'll start at £100k and the average will be closer to £200k.

So the views of the posters on here are largely irrelevant (to the people at Jag) as we will never be their audience.

They will have done a HUGE amount of research with their intended audience, and will know exactly what they think of it/what it says to them, and that's what matters.

MillyMichaelson · 22/11/2024 10:28

Yeah, I highly doubt they give a shit what the masses think. Actually, I know for sure that they don't.

PowerTulle · 22/11/2024 10:40

Hmmm but it’s important to them where jaguar sits in the mass public consciousness no? That’s the purpose of such a radical rebrand surely.

MillyMichaelson · 22/11/2024 10:42

It's important but more important that it speaks to people with strong fashion values and money to burn (ie not me unfortunately!)

That's why no car in the initial launch: it's not about the product but the brand. And that's all anyone is talking about so...

Ravenbright · 22/11/2024 10:43

Blimey what a fuss. It's got everyone talking about Jaguar so the advertising has worked I guess. It's trying to reposition the brand I figure. They could go back to the old days of 'car drives along country lanes, bloke in leather driving gloves at the wheel, looking smug' etc but maybe they wanted to try something new. Not sure why everyone's up in arms about it.

MillyMichaelson · 22/11/2024 10:43

But @Ravenbright EVERYONE INVOLVED UNDER 40 SHOULD BE SACKED 🙄😂😂

MillyMichaelson · 22/11/2024 10:52

This is their latest post; it is quite beautiful.

Well, no, just compared to general advert models? A lot people including me didn't recognise the fetish ware, although in my defence I didn't pay that close attention.

I guess for the brand it's considered radical. To the younger or newer or different demographic maybe not.

PowerTulle · 22/11/2024 10:58

I think it’s interesting that they’ve moved away from the idea of a luxury brand being aspirational. This doesn’t have that luxury, elite feel you’d expect for rich, fashionable progressives.

Unless it’s reverse psychology. If 98% of people don’t like it, they can target the tiny minority of ridiculously rich folk because they’re super special and ‘totally get it’!

MillyMichaelson · 22/11/2024 11:00

This doesn't feel luxury??? It so does.
