Omg what have they done?!

They'll go under in a matter of months I think!

The comms team are having a nightmare on twitter. Though I'm enjoying specsavers https://x.com/Specsavers/status/1859274959572414495

Go woke, go broke. I do hope so.

SnapdragonToadflax · 21/11/2024 19:42

Why on earth would they go under? It's just an advert. You've been listening to Farage, haven't you 🙄 He's very careful with his words, never says it out loud...

Oh that's absolute gold! Thanks so much for the laugh I really needed it after a crappy day at work. 😂

Aldi are also trolling

The car they eventually revealed could be amazing but what will be remembered is the piss poor campaign

Just saw it

call me old fashioned but I like a car ad to have some focus on cars...!

I think the Twitter team are coping quite well but I think they are maybe lying with the implications about it being the start of ads with actual cars in...they're saying it's part of a forthcoming story but are they just trying to save themselves? Or is part 2 going to be more problematic?!

shellyleppard · 21/11/2024 19:47

Where is the car though??? Just watched it and..... meh. Rather see a car tbh

EmeraldRoulette · 21/11/2024 19:53

Actually, you could argue that it's clever but I am not not clear when the new car is being launched. I thought it was 2026 or something? maybe the bad publicity is part of a plan but I don't know.

They're planning to be electric vehicles only so they've jumped on that bandwagon. I have lost the plot about the date that all cars have to be electric.

HermioneWeasley · 21/11/2024 20:07

Yes @EmeraldRoulette its so toe curlingly bad I can only assume it’s deliberate to get people talking about it. No such thing as bad publicity?

MillyMichaelson · 21/11/2024 20:14

I actually think it's a pretty smart move.

I don't actually like the aesthetic of the ad. But - it's not a car launch, it's a brand repositioning exercise, and in that regard it's worked a treat.

For the first time in a long time people are talking about Jaguar as A Brand, and that's intentional; if they hadn't have made such a bold move they wouldn't have made the pivot to a completely new audience.

People all over social are kicking up about the fact that the initial ad had no car in it, but that would only have muddied the waters. It's a brand ad, not a fan product launch.

I don't personally love the tone of voice, but I'm glad they went bold.

Hoppinggreen · 21/11/2024 20:15

Looks like a Zoolanderesque spoof

Caselgarcia · 21/11/2024 20:20

With so much history and heritage associated with Jaguar, it seems odd to go for such a weird rebrand. The new logo just looks like a sports/fashion brand and the models seem more associated with those pretentious perfume ads that are churned out at Christmas.

Lonelycrab · 21/11/2024 20:23

It’s got black people and rainbow colours in it 😱

Quick, kill it with fire, it must be evil!!!!

bestbefore · 21/11/2024 20:26

It's not just about a new car. It's the whole range! The website says
Jaguar is being reimagined for a new era, but our commitment to new and existing owners remains.
New sales of our current generation of vehicles have now ended, with the exception of I-PACE for Fleett_

bestbefore · 21/11/2024 20:27

You can't buy pretty much anything now. I've a feeling this is a BIG launch!!

Edited

Right...but the high-end luxury perfume/fashion demographic is their exact new target market. So this was deliberate, not a mistake.

I've read that they will be producing fewer cars and many of the dealers will be closing. I agree, maybe they are trying to appeal to a different audience but the success of the rebrand will still come down to the whether the cars are good enough.

MillyMichaelson · 21/11/2024 20:39

Well of course @Caselgarcia but as we don't have a product yet, we can only discuss the rebrand.

MidnightPatrol · 21/11/2024 20:42

Advert aside, I don’t think I really see any jaguars nowadays. I’m not even sure what their latest models are.

If you have an expensive car round here it’s a Range Rover, Tesla, Volvo XC90 etc.

bestbefore · 21/11/2024 20:44

We have one and the customer service is shocking!!

SouthernFashionista · 21/11/2024 20:46

Atrocious. Such a shame to destroy what has been an iconic brand.
I have no idea whether any of the characters are men or women. I suppose it doesn’t matter anymore DH has always driven a Jag, he’s not impressed either 🙄🙄🙄

Personally I’ve never been a fan, performance wise, if youve got money, they’ve been left behind by Audi if you’re in the market for a luxury fast car.

If you’ve got a bit more money, you buy a Porsche. That’s what I’d do if I was loaded im not

Werecat · 21/11/2024 20:51

I’m guessing the existing demographic aren’t going to be around that much longer and wouldn’t buy electric if you paid them.

so they are repositioning for the future.

I quite like it. It’s weird, but I’ve seen so many bizarre car brand adverts over four decades that it’s not that big a deal.

And that's the entire point! They're not trying to retain the heritage customer, there's little money in that. They need to target a younger monied audience with (alleged) eco sensibilities.

They know your lifelong Jag customer husband won't buy into their EV, so they've freed themselves up to target younger people with different tastes.

Would he drive an EV?
