They need to sack everyone under 40?! You sound ridiculous.

Automotive is run by men in their late 50s whose voices are well heard everywhere they go. You think they didn't direct this move, set the direction, brief the agencies invited to pitch, and sign it off??

Exactly
Being a young female in the car industry still isn't easy and we need young people and still more women

I clearly said they need to sack everyone under 40 IN THE BUSINESS OF AD MAKING! Because they are all stupidly woke!

I didn't mean sack everyone under 40 in the automotive industry FFS! 😂

The whole thread is about the adverts! Why the fuck would I say sack everyone under 40 in the automotive industry?!

Do you normally struggle with comprehension?

!

MillyMichaelson · 21/11/2024 21:38

It depends @Useofstirm a lot of these guys buy cars not to drive them; they're works of art and some are just investments. They're not driving them to the office or anything.

Ok I'll let them off then!

MillyMichaelson · 21/11/2024 21:47

As someone under 40 in the business of automotive ad making...I'd like to tell you that you've not got the faintest idea what you're talking about.

I'd say something less polite but I'm really enjoying this thread and would rather not get bumped off it.

Try reading peoples posts properly next time before you respond MATE. Then hopefully you won't embarrass yourself again.

I wonder if this bold rebrand will age well - as I said previously the ad reminded me of the Christmas perfume ads we've been seeing for a couple of years now - the choice of androgenous models and ambiguity of what they are advertising, although very different for Jaguar isn't particularly new. By the time the car is actually in the dealership (2026?), will we have tired of this type advertising?

YiayiaP · 21/11/2024 21:52

Useofstirm · 21/11/2024 21:24

Jaguar always said 'middle aged to old Company Director who played golf' to me and I wouldn't be seen dead in one so who knows

I totally agree. I thought the same about Mercedes. I’m now 50 and guess what I drive…It’s an EV too. I’ve also asked for golf lessons at my local club for Christmas. Who even am I?!? 😂

DrBlackbird · 21/11/2024 21:53

Pixilicious1 · 21/11/2024 20:58

Why would you hope a company folds? You do realise that real people are employed by them don’t you?

Thousands employed in the UK and many thousands more in its supply chain dependant on the firm. None of whom will have had any say about this ad, which will have been outsourced for its design to a global marketing firm like WPP full of ‘creatives’.

jaguar2024 · 21/11/2024 21:53

@DrBlackbird exactly. I'm just a single female on min wage paying my own bills and mortgage
I need my job

HangingOver · 21/11/2024 21:54

@LikeWhoUsesTypewritersAnyway have an aspirin and a sit down 😁

Switcher · 21/11/2024 21:54

It looks dated within weeks, but maybe that's almost the point. Zeitgeisty. Anyway, if you want to see a good ad, here's the Volvo one :

Exactly. This grim and hideous ad will very likely affect the sale of the car, and that could have a knock on affect on 1000s of jobs!

MillyMichaelson · 21/11/2024 21:55

Ok well. Moving on past random shouty people...

@Caselgarcia I sort of agree...although it's sort of desperately modern, it's also somehow feels like a pastiche already of a certain ad aesthetic. I don't really get it! And I'm not sure I like it.

But I like that they did it. That they've been bold enough to do it.

That said - the tone of voice on Instagram is genuinely awful. The replies to all comments is so weirdly robotic, it actually almost reads like ChatGPT. I think they'll work the kinks out in time though, they just had to go super super bold for the launch to complete the 180 from the heritage brand.

Nottodaygoaway · 21/11/2024 21:56

As a middle-aged woman who takes public transport every day and has never passed her driving test so is therefore very qualified to comment...I find this ad silly.

If they are aiming it at the under 40s, say, I think it's quite patronising? It's very cringy and unoriginal. Like a fashion or perfume ad, but for a fusty old motor car brand.

I don't care about the models in it what they look like or whatever, but some of them look like they've regretted turning up.

MrsPeregrine · 21/11/2024 21:56

Yes I have. We were thinking of getting the new F-Pace but have decided against it now because of the ad. I just can’t take the brand seriously anymore. The ad has completely changed my perception of it.

LikeWhoUsesTypewritersAnyway · 21/11/2024 21:57

Moving on past random people who CBA to read posts properly and just jump in with pointless waffle, (and embarrass themselves, but refuse to admit they're in the wrong!) yeah I agree @Nottodaygoaway the ad is silly, as well as cringe and grim!

!

WhatTheKey · 21/11/2024 21:58

I kind of love it because of the reaction. The fact that people are so pissed off about it is its strength. People who are offended by black people and what people are wearing in adverts is a good indicator as to whether you're a prick or not, and Jaguar is positioning itself on the right side here. I'd consider a new Jag now, and I never ever would have before.

BuzzieLittleBee · 21/11/2024 21:59

DrBlackbird · 21/11/2024 21:53

Nonsense. Many, many people will have had a say in the future direction of the company, and the marketing campaign designed to communicate it. And of course they have outsourced the advertising to an agency - that's how marketing works!

Of course there are also many, many other people in the company who weren't involved in it - there's a good reason why engineers, technicians, finance people, HR teams etc don't do marketing, and vice versa.

The decision about where to take the company will have been planned for years, and thoroughly worked through. The people at the top will be well aware how many employees they have in all parts of the business, and will want to keep them in employment (and return a tidy profit too).

What's the problem exactly? A man wearing a dress? Isn't the whole point of all of this that clothes and other outward symbols of "femininity" are just a social construct? In any case I wouldn't worry too much about Jaguar going out of business because a few people don't like one commercial. I'm guessing you weren't about to buy a Jaguar anyway.
