Omg what have they done?!

They'll go under in a matter of months I think!

No, they're using 'inclusivity' as, like, a key message for their brand.

But their products will be pitched, and priced, to engender the kind of exclusivity they've been missing, and losing to other other brands.

They're talking about a price of £130k for their new concept car due to be unveiled in about two weeks time in Miami. That is higher than the base price of a Mercedes S Class.

For a Jaguar to sell for more than an S Class Mercedes they have really got to come up with something radically different to justify that price point.

A rather outdated advert by itself isn't anywhere near enough to pull that off.

MillyMichaelson · 22/11/2024 20:32

It's not the advert by itself though is it? There's an actual car to come, which will be under immense scrutiny from all auto journalists.

This is one ad. One. The campaign will feature hundreds of different assets all told. I just can't get excited about making a judgement based off of one teaser ad.

Unsure how true this is but the reach is clearly massive. We have over 300 posts on a site that's not generally used to discuss cars.

👏👏👏👏👏

Lonelycrab · 22/11/2024 20:50

They’ve still got to manufacture and produce a car that is more appealing than the competition 🍿

That's just glib bollocks, though, isn't it? Trying to claim that it's some kind of master plan victory, that's exploited and owned the haters, just shows how out of touch they are.

Gillette had an $8 billion cash write down off the back of their super successful ”15 billion impressions" campaign.

"Gillette and Grey’s The Best Men Can Be campaign gave The Best A Man Can Get new meaning by triggering a global discussion on what it is to be a man today. The campaign film had 110 million video views and 15 billion impressions between January 2019 and February 2019."

Bad design and ads are the way forward then?

Seems a dud way to go

GargoylesofBeelzebub · 22/11/2024 21:01

The cost of the new car is reported to be double the price of their previous offering. How many can afford that?

ThisOldThang · 22/11/2024 21:08

@GargoylesofBeelzebub

Polestar tried to do the high end premium EV thing and they're not in a good place.

I would just ask how that played out for the American brand Bud Light?

Following a rather, shall we say, contentious advert in 2023, sales fell dramatically and, even a year later, are still 30% down. Consumers went elsewhere and never came back.

The VP of Marketing, Alissa Heinerscheid, was very quickly sacked. As was her boss.

The advert concerned a trans identifying man who was celebrating his "365 days of girlhood".

Merrymess · 22/11/2024 21:19

It seems to have worked though. Got you all talking about it.

Lonelycrab · 22/11/2024 21:24

That might be the case if one is choosing which beer to buy at a cost of a few quid.

But when choosing where to spend a hundred grand on a car, I would imagine the quality and performance of the car and how it is a better choice than it’s rivals will play a far bigger part than any perceived woke-ism in the initial stages of the ad campaign.

Lonelycrab · 22/11/2024 21:26

Besides, Bud light is farking disgusting- that can’t have helped

People talking about a product is only any good if it translates into sales.

Ask Gerald Ratner.

ExceededUsefulEconomicLife · 22/11/2024 21:34

@Another2Cats according to X the head of JLR marketing was also head of AB InBev soo... 😂

You could do anything if that's the criteria. As pp said see Gerald Ratner, that was talked about

What has really alarmed me is the fact that the far right are apparently appropriating Barbour jackets. Barbour need to act on that fairly swiftly.

‘Far right’. FFS that you, Yvette Cooper?

We are not 'talking about it'. We are dissing it.

Did I read correctly that the new car will be released at the Miami Arts Week. I presume that they running away from the serious motoring press. Do they want people to bracket JAguAR with that other recent triumph of the American arts scene, the banana sold for $6m ?
Like I said, a fool and their money are soon parted.

A piece of duct tape holds a banana to a white wall

Duct-taped banana artwork auctioned for $6.2m in New York

The winning bidder says he will eat the banana in coming days as part of a "unique artistic experience".

MillyMichaelson · 22/11/2024 22:22

We're not all dissing it.

It's a concept car they're revealing, not a working vehicle. It really doesn't matter.

Merrymess · 22/11/2024 22:24

Dissing it or not. You are still talking about it, which draws more attention to it. I haven't even seen it but will now go and look for it.

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 22/11/2024 22:26

MillyMichaelson · 22/11/2024 17:05

No, I agree. I've said about 8000 times now that I don't love it. But they had to make a very bold move from their existing brand. And this is how they chose to do it.

Bold doesn't have to = men in dresses and make up and bold colours. That's taking it wayyy too literally.

And you will see how ridiculous it is. I don't care if we are talking about it. I don't agree that all publicity is good publicity.
It isn't
It just... Isn't.

This is how me and my brother (who is super in to cars) spoke about it (and he is on the top 1% so could buy a "new brand Jag" should he choose to.

Anyone seen the new jaguar ad?

I talk all sorts of bollocks. Very little of it results in a buying decision for me or anyone else.
