Hi I am 4 month pregnant and I was meant to going back to work from sickness on next Monday. I work for NHS hospital. But all of sudden my manager called me that they received a complaint from information governance team that I had access someone information who was not our patient. I work as admin clerk at a busy ward. And that happened in December. I can't remember a thing. Also I have no personal reason to access someone health record unless someone asked to enquiries something which is happen very often. Person who complained who was not our PT or no way I know his/her. Now they put me off for two days and wanted to have meeting on Tuesday. But I cannot recall or remember anything of that sort. I am so worried will I lose my job??

I work in data protection. If you accessed data for the sole purpose of doing your job, and kept the access just to the necessary parts required for the job then no, there was a legitimate reason to access the data.

If you went into someone's file out of curiosity, or accessed more than that required at the time then yes, there could be a breach of data.

Whether or not you will be disciplined will be up to your work. It's more likely if its family, friends or an exes partner or someone like that because you will be considered to have known it is more sensitive.

Hi thank you. I can assure you it's not any relative or ex perter as I have none. But we get quiry sometimes or given wrong mrn to book into clinic then we have to dig a patient's documentation maximum to figure it if this patient ever came or treated in our clinic or etc. Because we are right next to the a&e so easily people come and we have to figure it out where or what happened to the patient. I honestly can't remember and even I accidentally Access I can't remember any details!! As it's absolutely unintentional. No internet to read any person's note

I wouldn't worry about it then. I work for a local government so probably very similar and we get complaints like this. They are thoroughly investigated, but only taken further if there is fault in the access.
