carers allowance

can anyone advise. my partner is just getting state pension and i understand that he will not get the carers allowance now - he will get basic state pension and has no savings. we are not in receipt of any benefits as i have a pension. will he be able to claim the £37 carers
element.

I'm not sure you can claim Carer's allowance once you are on a pension but I'm not certain.

Have you applied for Attendance Allowance and Pension Credit though? Attendance Allowance isn't means tested and can make a big difference.

Carers allowance is for people who are caring more than 35 hours/ week for someone in receipt of Attendance allowance or PIP that meets that criteria. You have to be on low income/ limited paid working hours to claim it and at working age.
It is intended to give the carer extra funds effectively to (not really as it isn't much) replace a working wage. So if your partner has retired she/he will be getting pension to replace wage.

You'll need to look up carers allowance rules but I would expect it to stop past retirement age once pension is being collected for the carer. The disabled person should still be getting their disability benefit. Which is what is also used to fund additional care support , they can also apply to local authority for help in care support.
