Sorry its along tale!
4 wks ago My Dad was Admitted to hospital cos he collapsed, turns out he had pnuemonia. he was in there 2weeks sent home but still V ill. Checked docs letter , says he has C-Deficila aswell. At home only 4 days when oneof the carers we had to get found him having a fit of some sort. I rush 180 miles cos they think he will die, then find out he has all this!!
Worst catagory of stroke
Pneumonia
C-deficil
lung fibrosis
left sided neglect
All on top of the diabetes, diverticulitus and his age (88)
I don't know what to do ,I feel so helpless.
The prognosis is not good ,but I can't get any straight answers from anyone

Still say he's stable ,but very ill
I am going tomorrow so will try again to get info .
I am going to ask about the Liverpool pathway , although when I said about to my oldest sister she seemed quite shocked.
We did actually all agree that he should not suffer and as far as I can see ,thats what that helps with.
God I just seem to get more and more confused.

Flossie, I have no advice but just wanted to say I am so sorry for what you are all going through. We have been going through similar things with my MIL in Spain and I know how horrible it is. Thinking of you all.

Been to see my Dad .
Things seemed not too bad on Friday ,but as the weekend went on he was terrible.sunday we were called to say they couldn't stop the fitting.
He is still hanging on ,I don't really know how.
They cannot get him to eat and all liquids are eitheer by drip or on a swab he can suck on.
My sisters went and saw the consultant today ,he told them that most people who have this type of stroke will not survive a month,so I guess its just a waiting game.We don't want him to suffer ,but they will not start pallative care at this stage. They want to give him haemaglobin to try and fight his C-Diff ,but said they will need to see if that makes any difference as all antibiotics have failed.

flossie, I'm so sorry about the news

if all ab's have failed, and most people with his type of stroke have a poor outcome, why won't they consider palliative care? can you talk directly to his consultant or a senior nurse?

thinking of you, xxx

Bundle ,I talked to the doctors at the weekend and they said they would not consider pallative care at the moment and they don't do the liverpool pathway there!
They are determined to try this blood thing first and said they would review in a week.
Then if nothing is working would think about pallative care.
Saying that they did not arrange to see any of our family again next week.I get the distinct impression that the hospital do not llike to tallk to people other than the patient about their case. This is all very well when they are fully aware but absolutley f*ing usless when they are so ill. my sisters were told to ring if they want another appoinment. Why oh why do they not arrange it for the next week ,it can always be cancelled!!
SORRY I JUST NEEDED THAT RANT
