Caring for a friend

Hi there. My DCs are both at school now. I've been helping a friend who is also a neighbour. She has MS and is in a wheelchair, has broken her ankle. I've been helping her generally going to hospital appointments, in the house and getting out the house. She is paying for carers to come in three times a day at the monent for personal care. We have talked about the possibility of me claiming Carer's Allowance and looking after her a bit more. Can anyone tell me how that would work in terms of her benefits. I wouldn't want her benefits to get taken off because of it. At the moment I think she is making direct payments to an agency for the carers coming in. Would she have to stop this. I am limited to school hours really as I'd be getting the children ready for school but would be able to help her after the school run.
