PLEASE!! Help needed!! Volvo 340

OK, we are desperately trying to get a car seat that will fit in the BACK of a volvo 340 (yes I know it is an old car!!) we have 3 britax seats. One of them fits in the front, but tbh I would like to sit in the front if I can! Obviously DS's safety comes first and if there isn't a seat that will fit safely in the back, then the front he will stay!

Surely, someone else must be able to help us, please please please!!!

Try going to a mothercare world. They can try out different seats for you.

nicm · 10/12/2009 14:47

is it only 1 car seat you need, or do you have to fit in in with other seats? what age/weight is your ds? we have the britax two way elite for ds 20 months and if it fitted-volvos have the extra bonus of having the thether strap points fitted. if you are near the in car safety centre in either milton keynes or belfast they will try different seats in your car for you. either that or your email hakan at www.carseat.se and he might be able to help.

We only need 1 to fit! according to Britax only the eclipse or prince (or somethong like that) will fit and only in the front! We have here an elite (older one) an eclipse and a first class si, none fit inback apparently. Haven't tried the lap belt yet though but i think they will all suffer from buckle crunch tbh. The car is 20 years old

it wouldn't show on the britax website as they are not widely sold in this country. have you looked on www.rearfacing.co.uk for more info? i would call the in car safety centre and see what they say, someone else had buckle crunch issues in their car and they ordered a twe and it fits as the seat belt is different to a forward facing car seat.

maxybrown · 10/12/2009 19:45

Thanks for that. Been looking at the 2 way elite. It is a 3 door car........would it be difficult to get him in it?

no more difficult than any other car seat in a 3 door car. my mum, mil, sis and sil all have 3 doors and he goes in the back of their small cars. isn't any easier or harder than my 206 was a few years ago and i had ff car seats.

maxybrown · 10/12/2009 20:33

I meant if it was rear facing sorry. I just can't see how we would get him in. Have been looking at them but we just don't have £200

not all volvos have tether strap points. at least, we couldn't find any on ours and had to loop the straps around the legs of the seats.

i'll stick my neck out too and say it COULD be harder to get him in because you'll have ot get right into the back seat surely to be able to put him into a rear-facing one?

nicm · 10/12/2009 20:37

yes, i meant it's not harder to get them in a rear facing seat either! and you can have him in the front too if you want, and then just move him if all 3 of you are in the car together. i would phone around and ask what the best price is for the seat if this is the one you want, if you don't ask you don't get! dp does this now loads and somethimes gets money off-i'm mortified but it seems to work lol!

thisisyesterday · 10/12/2009 20:38

whereabouts are you maxy? cos it's def worth going to somewhere like the in car safety centre in milton keynes, they stock a lot of different seats, not only rear-facing ones.

ditto the one in essex, very well regarded and knowledgeable.

from my experience i would steer clear of mothercare. bad advice given to uis, and sold a seat that wasn't really appropriate

maxybrown · 10/12/2009 20:39

That's what i thought. Please excuse my ignorance, but what is a tether strap point?

OP posts:
thisisyesterday · 10/12/2009 20:39

actually, on a serious note, we were told not to move the front seats at all after fitting the 2 way elite.

so surely it won't work in a 3 door car because it has to brace against a front seat, but you'll have to move the front seat back to be able to put the child in?

thisisyesterday · 10/12/2009 20:41

actually no, i suppose you could have it behind the driver, and always put him in from the passenger side, but i still think it would be more awkward doing that than putting them in from the front.

that said, i would do it, because it's so much safer.

don't get me started on the price of them though, i think it's outrageous that people are priced out of buying the safest seats.

maxybrown · 10/12/2009 20:48

It is outrageous and we really do not have that sort of money. They get you all ways don't they? thanks for all of your help though.
