3 car seats - what car do you drive?

jemart · 03/12/2009 21:18

We need a new car.
Ds about to outgrow his baby car seat and move up to forward facing. We can't fit all 3 of our DC car seats into our ancient rustbucket rover 420 as it only has a lap belt for the middle backseat.

DH feeling down about changing the car because he doesn't want a people carrier.

Just trying to scope out some options, do you all drive a Picasso or similar? what else might be big enough to fit us all in but not too expensive?

Touran.

It's a people carrier, but it doesn't feel too big.

purpleduckUnderTheMistletoe · 03/12/2009 21:55

We have had:
A citroen picasso

A Volkswagon Touran (our old car)
and
A Ford S Max

They all fit 3 seats. The picasso is mine and the Smax is my dh's, and both are great. The picasso actually isn't that wide or that long, but it does fit 3 car seats and has a lovely big boot

we have new model vauxhall zafira , fit 2 stage 1 seats and a high backed booster across back seat ....just and only in correct order................loads of boot space though , and extra 2 proper seats in the back, which come up or down independantly so you can leave yourself half a boot

navyeyelasH · 03/12/2009 22:04

A britax prince car seat fits using the lap belt I think - double check with britax site if this is right and also if the seat fits your car I have a suspicion volvos has sculpted middle seats so may not work!

thisisyesterday · 03/12/2009 22:05

we have a volvo v70 and have across the back seat:

besafe izi combi (rearfacing group 1 seat)
britax 2 way elite (rearfacing group 1 seat)- incidentally this can be fitted using a lapbelt
britax adventure (highback booster)

Lexus RX450h - I have 1 rear facing Britax, one Britax Evolva 1-2-3, and 1 Britax booster seat.

jemart · 03/12/2009 22:12

We already have a maxi cosi car seat, no wish to change the seat. The car is going anyway because its really really old, much rust, the boot door is in danger of falling off if you breath too hard on it.....
I just need to take make sure we all fit into whatever is purchased as a replacement.

we have an samx, easily fits 3 seats in the middle and it is fab.

All Renaults have 3 proper seat belts in the rear seats. We have gone with Renault for that reason.
Our car is ugly as sin, but does fit all the children in, safely.

tassisssss · 03/12/2009 22:20

loved our renault scenic

switched recently to a Zafira as wanted the extra seats in the boot and actually for various reasons I really don't like it, but you'll get 3 in the back no bother.

SherryMerryLennipillar · 03/12/2009 22:24

I have an Honda CRV. Fits three Group 1 seats across the back, but I did have to change my seats in the end to get three in.

What kind of seats do you need to get in?

saladfingers · 03/12/2009 22:26

I drive a vauxhall meriva, bit mumsy after my mini cooper but at least i can get 3 car seats in the back and not have to choose which DC to leave behind!

jemart · 03/12/2009 22:26

priori xp and two boosters.

I have 3 maxi cosis in a fiat multipla!

jemart · 03/12/2009 23:21

Citroen C8 fits 3 car seats in the back, and before that we had a mitsubishi space wagon which was great.

jemart · 04/12/2009 11:08

is that the one with the dancing robot advert? I like those!
DH needs convincing though because it is his car, I do not drive.

I have a proper Surrey mummy mobile: Volvo XC90. I love it as it has an inbuilt booster in the back so I do'nt skin my knuckes quite so much doing the belts.

We have a Ford Galaxy and have had 2 x maxi cosi stage 1 + maxi cosi stage 2, and 2 maxi cosi x stage 2 + high back booster and now have 3 x high back boosters.

sleepwhenidie · 04/12/2009 20:51

Just a suggestion but I have a similar problem and someone mentioned a product called multimac which is effectively one big car seat for 3 or 4 children. The website uses a ford fiesta to demonstrate how you can make the car into a 5 seater...drawback is cost, you would have to spend between £1k and £2k BUT they should last until your DC's are 12 and if your DH really hates the idea of an MPV or any of the cars mentioned by others and would be happy to buy a cheaper small car, it may be the answer....

crankytwanky · 04/12/2009 20:53

I have an enormous Toyota Estima, which is probably bigger than you want, but the children don't even need to sit in the same row!
