Extended rear facing car seats

Just looking for peoples opinions on the best extended rear facing car seats?

My DS1 is going to grow out of his cat seat in the next 6 months-year when he is 3-3.5 when he hits 19kg.

Hope people have some good recommendations of the best car seats which will allow us to rear face longer but also ideally convert to forward facing when needed.

Any recommendations appreciated so we can start to save!

Axkid Minikid is a good one we have used. Also the Axkid move I think can be used forward facing but we didn’t use that one. @bertiebottsis an excellent wealth of info on this topic.

We did have a mini kid but unfortunately our car doesn't have the ability to fit the tether straps so we had to get a new one!

Besafe stretch, we also have an ax-kid One and I am not keen on the straps.

Axkid Move isn't sold any more but doesn't convert to FF.

I think probably your best bet would be Avionaut Stardust? It's RF up to 125cm/21kg and then converts to HBB. Fits using isofix, so no tethers needed.

Most of the 125cm limit RF seats need tethers. The ones which don't are the isofix ones (Avionaut Stardust, Axkid One, Joie i-Prodigi, Silver Cross Perform, Besafe Beyond - though this is £££££ as needs base) and Axkid Core.

I would also double check whether you can actually tether if you already have the Minikid - it's pretty rare not to be able to at all: http://erfmission.com/you-cant-tether-in-my-car-debunking-myths-3/ (If a warning comes up saying it's not secure, it's just because it's an old page from before https - there's no security issue.)

You Can’t Tether In My Car – Debunking Myths #3

Although actually 21kg might be a bit low for a limit for you. Axkid Core is probably the best bet if you can't tether and want it to last as long as possible.
