I don't know if I am being too strict about this

So I was talking to a few parents at park and they have there three year olds in front facing seats am I a bad mother for making my child still rear facing?

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

In what way would it make you a bad mother? Even if some people felt it was unnecessary, it’s not anything bad.

My neighbours on both sides have their 4 and 5 year olds rear facing. It’s the safest thing as long as the seats are suitable and appropriate for weight and height.

SnowSnow · 27/09/2026 16:18

My child is 3 next week and will be rear facing for the foreseeable. I think I may be the only one out of a few friends with children similar age still rear facing but knowing how much safer it is I couldn’t not rear face him.

This must be rage bait!? My girl is 3 and will be rear facing until she is too big to rear face

newmommy2006yay · 27/09/2026 16:20

Thank you guys she's still like small so she'll probably fit in the seat we have her in now for at least another few years I just needed the reassurance

Grow a pair - your child - your rules!

Katypp · 27/09/2026 16:23

Unless you were having issues with your child refusing to rear face, complaining etc, why would this even enter your thoughts?
Unless it was just a post to be told you are a better mum than your friends in the park?

newmommy2006yay · 27/09/2026 16:24

@Katyppno I was just making sure I wasn't being unreasonable

is Your child happy? Does your child scream bloody murder or vomit every time you get in the car? Are there any problems at all with your current setup?

Some parents end up turning in a desperate attempt to solve car problems. Other parents turn just because they see it as some right of passage or think it is easier.

As long as your child is not in distress, there is no reason to change anything. Keep them rear facing as long as possible.

newmommy2006yay · 27/09/2026 16:34

To be honest she loves it I just made the post because I was making sure I wasn't somehow after missing a big Milestone I shall probably be rear facing for a few more years she hasn't been growing much since for 2-year appointment and she's almost 3 @Ponderingwindow

She will probably have a big growth spurt and catch up all at once, it's what my kids seem to do Grin

Anyway you are fine to have your 3yo RF - it has the best safety outcomes, so it's beneficial as long as it's working for everyone.

Also totally fine for other parents to choose FF for 3yos - as long as they are in properly fitted seats for their age and size and use them every time, that's the most important thing.

Forget about other people. It's none of their business.

Extended rear facing seats are expensive so not everyone has them, also big so don’t fit well in some cars but if you have one use it until they are too tall/too heavy for it! They didn’t exist when mine were small but mine were in forward facing then hbb until 140cm tall, 11 years old for mine (small) yet others had kids with no booster even at 3, or using a garden cushion Confused yet parents and even my mil though it was a sign of being advanced! No its unsafe
