Has anyone managed to find a combination of 3 car seats that fit in a Kia Sportage 2015 model?

We have a 7 year old and an 18 month old and are due with our 3rd child in April and really don’t want to have to buy a new car but the Kia Sportage is so narrow! Kia say it’s possible to fit 3 seats across but so far we haven’t managed to find a combination… any suggestions?! I don’t like the idea of a multi Mac as the seats can only rear face until 15 months.

Does your manual definitely allow it? Some of the Sportages dont allow a car seat in the middle rear seat at all, so there is no combination that works. Ours isnt a 2015 model so I didnt look at that one specifically.

Can you put the baby in the front rear facing with the airbag turned off?

Depends on how skinny your other adult passenger is though, as there is very little space on the back middle seat once you get two car seats in (although ours are a joie 360 and a britax max safe pro so not the skinniest anyway. If you have two axkids already, you might have more space on the middle rear seat). Theres no hope for me but my very lithe Dad can just about squeeze between ours. It doesnt make a comfortable journey though so its only for occasional journeys.

I agree with you on avoiding the multimac.

We bought a multimac car seat when our number 3 came along. It wasn’t cheap (!) but it was cheaper than bigger car. they fit into back seats that don’t fit 3 normal car seats and they have a good baby seat option.

We also sold it once our eldest no longer needed a car seat. Unlike normal seats they do hold their value.

Sorry, just seen you don’t want the multi mac, should have read to the end!

A Mifold ?! For the 7 year old , if they are over 125cm or 22kg…

Have a look if any local independent car seat retailer are near you. They are often happy to play about with different seat options as a puzzle.
Depending on what seats you have now you might need to change some and check your car allows seats in the middle.

From a Facebook group. Looks pretty tight. www.facebook.com/share/1ZP7Ps6WsC/

Get the multi mac then by the time your baby is 15 months old. You eldest will be 9 and able to have a booster / No car sest depending on height

We found it ok with 3 ( 2 x HBB and 1x baby seat) in an Octavia, but found when he progressed out of the baby seat (the one that goes on the pram) to a larger baby seat it was impossible. We did a lot of research and one of the only cars we found worked for us is the seat Alhambra. Wish we’d just got it sorted from day 1 as it really is so much easier. So I guess what I’m saying is, it may be you need to change cars even if you can make it work in the short term!

We don't have a Sportage but across the back of our A6 estate isn't the widest and we can fit a minikid then Avionaut pixel pro then axkid up, in that order, across the back. Pain as the pixel pro needs to go in the middle but it's doable.

Thank you for all your suggestions everyone, we’re off to Halfords today so will see if we can find a solution!

We hoped to keep our car for 1 year while no. 3 was newborn. However like a previous poster said, within a week of our 3rd coming home my husband was fed up of trying to get all 3 car seats to fit in, let alone with the 3 in them! We went out to buy a Vauxhall Zafira or Ford Galaxy but found the Volkswagen Sharan & Seat Alhambra (same cars). Game changer with 3 full size individual seats in the middle fit each car seat.

Make your life easier and buy one if you can. The boot is flat (easy to change) and rear seats comfy for adults too sit in. Finally the sliding door is also a game changer for getting them all (and baby seat) in and out car parking spaces.

Good luck and congratulations!

P.S. we haven't found a better car set up and replaced our first Sharan with the Alhambra as that was available when needed.

Sorry for sorting mistakes!

LittlePetitePsychopath · 03/01/2026 07:28

No. And I’d be stunned if Halfords had any decent configurations at all.

Multimacs are not great, safety wise. That wouldn’t be an option for me either. It’ll either be one of the adults squeezing in between two seats in the back, and the infant in the front, taking two cars if you’ve got them, or upgrading to a bigger car. The Sorrento can do it, I believe?

DeliciouslyBaked · 03/01/2026 07:45

Halfords will not be able to give you good advice. They are dreadful. Have a look on this list for your nearest independent - you dont need to buy an Axkid, but anyone on this list will have good knowledge, a range of seats and you might even be able to try some out in your car before buying. https://axkid.com/uk/find-a-retailer-near-you/

The other thing you could try is asking on one of the car seat safety groups. A decent one is Bump to Booster - UK car seat support. It has a specific thread with 3 across set ups so you could have a look through for other Sportages.

Here you can buy Axkid products | Find our retailers | Axkid

Do you want to buy a car seat or other accessory from Axkid? We have created a map where you can easily find your nearest store.
