Car seats for 1 and 4 year old, minefield 🥴

Please give me your best recommendations for a car seat for 1 and 4 year old. I got myself in knots looking at different reviews etc, it’s a minefield…

1 year old: height 81cm and weight £11.2kg, tracks around the 90th centiles for both

We currently have Cybex Cloud Z.

4 year old: height 103cm and weight 17.6kg

We currently have Maxi cosy, not sure which model if I’m honest! But it’s the one that goes up to 4 years.

We’ve been looking at Cybex T i-Fix R129.

Our car isn’t the biggest so nothing too big.

Thank you!!! 🙏🏼

Ah we had this exact issue recently when both kids were outgrowing their seats at the same time. In the end we moved our 1yr old into our 4yr olds seat (joie I spin) and bought our 4 year old the cybex solution s2 (similar to the T I-fix). I also found it a minefield especially as most car seats for kids over 4 don't have a harness and I read so many mixed things around this and had my own doubts that she'd actually stay in her seat but so far it's been fine.

I’d get an extended rear facing car seat for the 1 year old due to high centiles. Something like the axkid minikid, britax Safeway, avionaut stardust or besafe stretch.

Your 4 year old is quite small yet so would still fit in any of the seat I mentioned above for quite a while yet so you could get something like a graco slimfit and put baby in that rear facing just now and your 4 year old in an extended rear facing seat and then put baby in the erf seat and the older child in the graco or similar as a high backed booster in a year or so.

@Fizhy How tall is your 4 year old? I think mine would be ok with a seatbelt too, she’s quite sensible and would probably be ok in the Cybex one. I’m glad to hear yours likes the Cybex one.

Her current seat isn’t good for my 1 year old (quite an old model so I’m keen to replace it.

There are just too many to choose from. 🥴

Axkid move or axkid minikid. We have the axkid move and it has lasted really well, would recommend for the 1 year old.

We have the joie trillo for our 6 year old, would be suitable for your 4 year old depending on whether you want to rear/ forward face.

Fizhy · 16/11/2025 18:55

@luckyfaithshe was 104cm when we moved her into her new seat. She's surprised us with how sensible she's been, I honestly thought she would have escaped out of it at least once by now but so far she's been fine.

We have the Axkid Minikid 2. It’s been great for us. It did my son up to 25kg and now my DD is in it x

I'd do this. Axkid minikid or Axkid move. Unless you want isofix in which case the Axkid One. I also have the BeSafe stretch which is fab too. My only criticism of the stretch is that if you ever needed to fit 3 across, the minikid/move is more versatile in that regard as they don't have a rebound bar whereas the stretch does.
