Joie Elevate

Does anyone know the difference between the old Joie Elevate and the new R129 compatible one. Obviously the new one meets the newer standard but in reality what does this mean? My eldest has the older style and I’m about to buy for my youngest, is the newer version worth the extra money?

The newer one has a different weight limit, 21kg rather than 18kg for the harness. However it also has a height limit of 105cm on the harness whereas the old one could be used until the child was physically too tall, as long as under 18kg.

The newer standard is a bit stricter with less tolerance for forward movement and requires better side impact protection, so it's possible that the new one performs better but there hasn't been any independent crash test on either of them to say for sure.

They are the same price most places that I can see - what is the price difference you are looking at? There are some seats in this category that it's worth paying more for, IMO - but Elevate is sometimes a good option e.g. if your budget is tight and/or you need seatbelt fitting. Happy to recommend some if interested.

@BertieBottsThe price difference is on this website: https://www.kiddies-kingdom.com/toddler-car-seats-15m-7yrs/53644-joie-elevate-r129-group-123-car-seat-shale.html?_gl=1iz127e_upMQ.._gs*MQ..&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIkbOB7KKQkAMVEaNQBh0tdATQEAQYASABEgKuTvD_BwE&gbraid=0AAAAAD38Dkaz_pB243OHUDPDh0tqUxAoR
I hadn’t realised the weight limit on the harness was so low… he’s still rear facing in a Joie spin. In my car I’m looking at a Britax advancafix pro so the elevate (I need 2) are for my DH’s car and my mums. Any recommendations for similar with a larger harness and weight limit as I’m not sure I trust him with just a seatbelt!

Ah OK I hadn't seen the older version at £50.

Unfortunately no, there isn't much on the market in the way of extended harness seats. Britax Advansafix is the same BTW - also 22kg and 105cm. If you want a true extended harness seat (25kg/125cm limit) you want Joie i-Irvana Max or Cozy n Safe Excalibur i-size. Both are £200ish which is about the same as an extended rear facing seat up to 25kg.

Can I ask how old LO is now and is he coming to the limit on the spin?

Graco are the same parent company as Joie and they have the similar seat Graco Eldura R129 which is a little bit cheaper but seems the same as the newer Elevate R129.

Cozy n Safe Hudson, the old R44 version, has a 25kg harness limit (no height limit) and uses isofix + top tether to fit, which is worth having for a forward facing seat. The newer i-size / R129 version of this doesn't have the extended harness. This is £80 on amazon which is a good price but I can't speak to the safety or quality of the seat. I know MNers have been fairly happy with it.

Thanks for the info! He’s 3 years 9 months, 16kg and about 100cm so ok in his spin for a bit, I’m just starting to shop around for the next seats. Was hoping to keep him rear facing as long as his Joie spin will allow… I’m not going down the extended rear facing route as I had one for my DD and just never got on with it.

Will take a look at the other seats suggested.
