I know I can take the back off easily, but wondered if I could use the booster seat (where the childs bottom goes) on its own?

i understand this is less safe but I’d like to keep it in the boot for giving lifts to older children.

i have the joie i trillo and I traver.

Not all high back boosters allow this, it's only allowed if it says so in the manual. The manuals of these seats don't show a backless booster mode so you can't use them like that.

I know it seems daft but you'd have to buy a separate one for use like that. With a backless booster, the horns have to be strong enough to hold the belt under force so the booster doesn't fly out from under the child. With a high back the backrest of the booster seat stops this from happening, so it's possible (I am not sure how likely) that the "horns" in a high back booster wouldn't be designed to be strong enough to do this.

I think I only paid £15 for a booster seat to keep in the boot for this exact reason x
