When to switch from 5 point harness?

Child is 3, but very tall and a bit over the 18kg weight limit for the 5 point harness. However he is also autistic and often throws tantrums when I am driving so I don’t know if switching would be safe. Advice please?

I think I would look for a bigger 5 point harness seat in that case. There are more rear facing than forward facing ones, but assuming you would want a forward facing seat, you can get either Joie Bold, Cozy n Safe Hudson or Puggle Safe Fit & Grow which all have a 25kg harness without height limit. They need to be fitted with isofix, top tether and seatbelt.

Avoid the i-size (R129) versions of these seats as the harness is limited to 105cm.

Hey! I’m in a very similar situation to you! My son is 3 and is over the 18kg too (he’s 20kg) big lad😂 anyway, a friend was selling 2 of the same car seats for very cheap (only been used in their grandparents car) they are the joie trillo so they just use the normal 3 point seat belts. My eldest knows to sit still as he’s 5 almost 6, however my 3 year old is being tested for adhd and is very fidgety and would often undo his 5 point harness so I thought he wouldn’t be able to reach the main seat belt🤦🏻‍♀️ since driving home I didn’t realise the amount he can move about with this seat belt because it’s obviously not stuck in one place, he doesn’t quite understand the reason he’s not allowed to move about while driving with this kind of seat belt and now I’m feeling like hes not going to be safe with this car seat using the 3 point harness.. not advice but just very similar situation and hoping for advice too🤷🏻‍♀️😂
