Child is a big lad weight wise, average height. But no car seat or booster seat. Is this ok?

No. Need a car seat until around age 12 - maybe a little earlier if very tall / heavy but there is no way a 6yo is big enough to be in a car without one.

No, they are likely breaking the law.

Children need to use a booster seat until they are 135cm tall or 12 years old, whichever comes first. That would be unexpectedly tall for a 6 year old.

It is best for a 6 year old to be in a high back booster, backless boosters are not recommended for children under 22kg and 125cm. (Some are illegal to be used below this height/weight).

No, my DSs are tall (98th centile) and DS8 is still on a booster (he has just tipped over the legal limit but can’t sit properly in our cars without one). DS2 was 5’0 at 9 and at that point was off a booster seat.

My just turned 7 year old was 135cm when we measured her a couple of months before she turned 7, so she was above the minimum height limit to be out of her booster seat, so it is possible for a 6 year old not to legally require one. My daughter's still in hers as I think it's safer, but technically she doesn't have to be.

I have a 6yo girl and she is 131cm tall so it is possible for someone that young to be that tall. She is a runner bean also. Very slim and tall 😂 so really in a couple months she would be legally allowed to be in the car without a booster 👀
