Group 2/3 ISOFIX - but NOT with a back anchor strap (need it with leg)

So I'm stuck... my car has a back anchor point and so, in theory, I could buy any seat and it'll fit. However the anchor point is, strangely, so high up the back of the chair, that the seats I've tried will not let me lock tight (green light) the strap - in other words, the angle of the strap coming over and the big bulky mechanisms they have sit in a way, at the top of the bac of the seat so as to not allow me to lock tight the strap.

I'm left looking for ISOFIX seats that have the leg - rather than the strap - as they're extra support. All Group 2/3 ISOFIX seats seem to have the back anchor straps. Does anyone know of a Group 2/3 with a leg instead?

Hi, are you in the UK? I am confused because I have never come across a Group 2/3 seat (this is the high back booster type where the child uses the adult seatbelt) with a top tether.

I have heard that in Australia the booster seats sometimes have a top tether, but this is not usual in the UK.

Could you send a link to one of the seats that you're looking at?

Or do you need a seat which harnesses up to Group 2 which is 25kg?

Yes, in the UK... we tried a Joie Bold:

The top tether works on one of our cars but not on mine as the anchor point at back of seat is too high up / almost at the top of the seat (a bizarre quirk)!

All of the ISOFIX ones in this field are top tether from what I can see!

We couldn't find one with a leg either. Just bought an ickle bubba which has a too tether and used for the first time yesterday. Ds hated it and we are going to look for something else…

Akid one is isofix and up to 36kg I think

Ah, I see so you need the harness - or are you looking to use this seat in high backed booster mode? If you're using it as a high backed booster, then you don't need to attach the top tether.

What's the age, height and weight of your child? All 123 type seats (convert from harness to booster) are either isofix and top tether, or seatbelt fit. None of them have the support leg. But there are some all stages seats which use a support leg instead though honestly I don't love the all stages seats as a rule, you want to try and minimise the amount of modes your seat is trying to cover because most times it results in a compromise.

You might find that the tightening strap is in a slightly different place on different top tether seats so it could be worth trying different brands.

Axkid One2 is indeed isofix, covers the equivalent of Group 2, and uses a support leg but it is rear facing only. The weight limit is 23kg.

I agree not really a fan of the Ickle Bubba seats, they are quite cheaply made.

Thank you for your help. Appreciated!

Child is nearly 4... and she still benefits - and will for a while I think - from harnesses... I think it could be a while yet, before she's using the seatbelt option.

Why my car has the anchor point so high up is beyond me. It's utterly bizarre because whilst you can get the anchor on - the space needed to properly tighten it up and see the green light / sign - is more than I have. I've tried!

My only other option is to put her in the front seat as that has an anchor point low down (where it should be!) but I wanted to, ideally, avoid putting her up front by default.

You could try the Cozy n Safe Hudson (not the i-size) if you want the 25kg harness as the placement of the top tether tightener might be in another place. It's in stock on amazon.

Alternatively have you tried installing the Bold with it in a reclined position? This can slightly move the tether, I think this used to be their advice when you have difficulties with the placement of it.

Lastly if you can say her weight and height it might be another brand is suitable.

If you do fit it in the front then you want the seat as far back as it will go without the seatbelt getting forward anchorage. And then check your car manual to see whether the airbag should be on or off for forward facing seats. It's imperative to get the harness at the right height and correct tightness for front seat too, to avoid contact with airbag.

Maxi Cosi Beryl has the 25kg harness and fits with leg, but doesn't convert to booster and doesn't have a lot of space in the harness for older children. It's also difficult to find in stock anywhere and might be totally out of stock now.

Also rear facing seats as others have said.

Thanks again for the suggestions! I will look into them all.
