Car seats

Has anyone fit 3 car seats in their car?

I’m looking to get another car; currently in the second trimester with my second, and hoping will have my third in a couple of years too (want them all close together).
My mum is trying to persuade me to get a Kuga like her (it needs to have a 2t towing capacity - I was looking at the Ford S max or Galaxy but only the newer ones seem to have this and I only have a £10k budget).

Will the Kugas fit 3 car seats, or does anyone have something similar that does? No recommendations for anything that drinks fuel please, I’ve got quite right requirements I know but I have to commute to work 40 mile round trips so it can’t be a gas guzzler.
i do like the Kuga but that middle seat seems far too small when there’s 3 car seats to consider.

It looks doable with the right seats but the right seats being the operative word!

Have you tried your own seats in the Kuga on a test drive/at the dealer? What seats do you have right now?

Yes Peugeot 5008 takes 3 car seats.

Very, very few cars do so make sure you test your seats in the car before buying

I was just about to say about the 5008 but someone beat me to it!

I have a Citroen C5 aircross which can fit 3 car seats on the back seat, but only 2 of the seats have isofix points, meaning when I take my 3 under 4 grandchildren out, I have to have one in the passenger seat which does have an isofix point.

You're going to really struggle finding a SUV type towing car that can fit 3 seats but is not a gas guzzler! Something like a shogun, or toureg, or maybe volvo xc90 would work, but they're all 3l engines, and it would probably have 150k miles on the clock to bring it down to £10k.

There are a few people carriers that work. Smax, old galaxy, alhambra, sharan, older c4, old grand scenic, but I think ony the Smax will tow 2t,and you'll struggle to find a reliable one for £10k. There might be a volvo estate that fits 3 seats and has the towing capacity you need....?

You could have a look at www.multimac.com/home for an alternative. Expensive, but (I am told, I don't have one myself) very good and also hold their value. Will depend on how long you think you will need all three seats for, but might be a good option.

How old is your first? By the time the third comes along could they be in a booster seat rather than a full car seat? That might make it easier?

What others said. Multimac, larger French car (5008, Berlingo), VW Touran, S-Max…

I’d your shoes I’d buy the car you want and budget for a Multimac if/when 3 comes along.

Doable but tricky, unless the car has 3 full sized seats across the back then even if seats fit the space you are likely to end up with buckle crunch issues. The cheaper way to solve it is, depending on age of children, that 1 child goes in front and the second adult at the back.

We had 3 in car seats in a zafira (old style not the newer tourer). We managed HBB, slim HBB with 5 point harness and a rear facing baby seat across the back.

This is a bit older now but that might not matter if you're looking at second hand cars anyway

There's a seven seater Nissan Qashqai. It's not a big gas guzzling 4x4, just an average sized suv

Having a third row of seating would mean you don't have to have three kids cramped together. You'll have to check if Isofix is on the third row though and bare in mind if the third row is used you'll have less boot space
