Sloped Seats

Hello, I'm looking to buy my first car seat for my DD.

I did have my heart set on the Joie i-Spin 360 to use from day 1 with the newborn insert. However, I've now read some reviews saying that if you have sloped seats, then this is not a good option for a newborn, as their heads can bob forwards.

So, now looking at a cheap baby carrier for the first 6 months, and think I have settles on the Joie i-Snug, although it pains me having to drop so much money when I could potentially get a 0+1 seat from the get-go. But baby's safety is obviously paramount to me.

What I am wondering, though, is whether the Joie i-Spin 360 would be suitable from 6-8 months, considering that our seats are sloped... Does anyone have any experience with this situation? (I'm thinking ahead, and may even buy now)

Thanks!

Why don't you go to a retailer and have a check of the Joie i-Spin in your car? You're looking for a max angle of 45 degrees for a newborn, ideally closer to 40 (from flat). But you can often see visually if the seat is very upright even for older children. In this seat you keep the wedge in until around 15 months so it's worth checking with and without.

It's not only the slope of your seats which plays into this but the position of your isofix points as well. Sometimes they are positioned a bit higher up, which works to level out the slope.

The Joie spin seats are fairly good as they have a chunky wedge and a better recline than some other brands. However there is a spin seat designed specifically for seats of any slope - Besafe izi Twist B. That might be worth looking at as a comparison. However, it is quite a bit more expensive, potentially the cost of an infant seat + base more expensive. And the one that does from birth (izi Twist B) is only rear facing whereas the one from 3 months (izi Turn) has the option to rear face or forward face. I don't know if you could buy the Turn and get the newborn insert separately.

Bear in mind you will have the same problem with infant seat bases, unless you get one that has angle adjust built in. The Graco Snugessentials one is on offer on amazon Black Friday at the moment and does offer this. i-Snug also in conjunction with the i-Advance base, or you can just belt fit. You could also look at Joie Juva if you want to belt fit. It's very cheap but more basic in design.

i-Snug probably a good option if pram compatability is important to you though.

Oh actually I was out of date sorry - Besafe do do a version of the Turn from newborn now :)

So you can choose from these versions:

Besafe izi Turn - from 3 months, RF/FF
Besafe izi Turn B - from birth, RF/FF
Besafe izi Twist - from 3 months, RF only
Besafe izi Twist B - from birth, RF only
