Mouldy car seat - any advice on how to clean?

We made the mistake of leaving the baby car seat in our garage where it has become mouldy on some parts of the fabric as well as the straps. It is only a year and a half old and now I’m expecting my second I was really hoping to reuse it and save some pennies! Any advice on a way to completely remove the mould safely as I know how dangerous mould can be to babies. Thanks!

Can you remove the cover and wash it in the machine?

You should be able to remove the cover to wash it, most are designed for this in the case on baby vomiting!

Contact the manufacturer, as the straps might need to be replaced. They can do this at a much lower cost than replacing the whole seat. You can't usually use anything caustic on them which most mould killer is.

Yes! I had this exact thing. Take the cover off and machine wash. You could add a laundry sanitiser to make absolutely sure it’s safe. Then for the straps it’s elbow grease. I ended up scrubbing them with bleach until all trace of mould was gone and then machine washed them. It ended up looking fantastic. You’d never have known what had happened.
