3 door car, no isofix, rotating/swivel?

Hi all - I strongly suspect there isn't going to be a solution to this but if anyone has any ideas I'd be eternally grateful...

We are adopting a gorgeous little chap of 12 mths old who is, well, a chunkster. I was hoping to get a rotating/swivel seat because my car only has three doors and I'm worried about breaking myself trying to get him into a rear-facing seat through the front doors. Even just 90 degrees would make it much easier I think.

I am going to check at Halfords but I'm almost certain the car hasn't got isofix, though - it's a 2008 plate. Does that rule out all rotating seats for us?

Short answer - all rotating seats need isofix.

What centile is he following for weight and height? If he's predicted to be 18kg+ by the time he's 4, an 18kg rotating seat wouldn't be the best choice anyway. You would be better to get a 25kg rear facing seat. My DS is predicted to be 18kg just after 2.5yrs!

As for the 3 door with a rear facing seat, search through the Facebook group 'car seat advice uk' to see what other people have used with your car or other 3 door cars. Remember it won't be too long until he can climb up himself, although obviously the belt is still an issue.

The easiest solution is to put a rear facing seat on the front passenger seat with the air bag switched off (preferably disabled). This is perfectly safe and really common in countries like Sweden with much better car safety records than us. Something like the Britax Two Way Elite would be a good choice for this.

Thanks so much - I’ve been over to that group and there’s loads of helpful stuff from people with similar experiences.
