Any feedback on the Maxi Cosi Pebble Plus car seat (particularly from parents of larger newborns)?

I'd be grateful for any feedback on the Maxi Cosi Pebble Plus car seat.

The professional reviews all give it an excellent rating. However, the (small number of) reviews from parents on the Mothercare site stated that it was too small and cramped for their babies with the insert, but too big/deep without it.

I'm currently 37 weeks pregnant, and the scans suggest that our baby is going to be on the big side and then some, so I don't really want to buy a car seat that's going to make him squashed and unhappy! Any thoughts would be most welcome!

The insert keeps them safe and secure. If it was loose it wouldn't be doing it's job, regardless of whether or not baby likes it.

Our son was 8lb 7oz and cried like crazy every time he was put into the car seat. Within a few minutes of driving he calmed down though. We never removed the insert because we knew it was there to protect his fragile head. By 3 months he no longer batted an eyelid at being put in the car seat and we continued to use the insert for many months after.

He is now 10.5 months and has outgrown the seat. He is too tall for it now and weighs over 11kg.

I would recommend it.
