Are you meant to take the cushion bits out of a group 1 car seat?

Just that really. They are obviously detachable but I wasn't sure if that's just for washing them or if you can take them out entirely as the child grows. Manual makes no mention of them that I can see.

(If it makes a difference, ours is a Nania)

Yes, take them out once they start getting in the way. I'd say you don't need them at all if it's a Group 1 9-18kgs forward facing seat.
