Child seat/HBB for 6 year old- tall as possible pls, any ideas?

Hi there,

I am currently pg with DC3 which has meant we have delved back into the world of looking at car seats etc.

Which has made me have a rethink about our current set up.

DS2 is 6, almost 7 and about 128cm. He is currently just on a booster cushion.

Having looked into it a bit more I am now worried about the safety of just using a cushion rather than the HBB with support/side impact protection.

DH thinks i'm making a bit of a fuss, and i get the impression is reluctant to spend £150+ on a seat that DS will outgrow within a few months.

Can you suggest a HBB, ideally with ISOFIX, that is particularly suitable for taller children? I have read that elsewhere they insist children stay in seats until 150cm as its safer than 135?

If he is just on a booster seat at the moment, why does the hbb have to be isofix? You can get reasonably priced hbb's that are not isofix and would be better than what he is on now. Height wise I think most hbb,s have quite an extension on the headreast. I have had a graco and a britax and both went pretty tall.

Because apparently if your booster/hbb isn't isofix then they should be strapped in every time you are driving without the child in them as they become a high speed projectile inside the car if you have a collision. If the seat is isofix you don't need to worry.

It maybe a case of going out and trying them but i was hoping to have some pointers first.

We have a Cybex Solutions Q fix which grows upwards and outwards to fit larger children which is why we bought it. We use the isofix fitting but can also be used just with the seat belt if you need to putt in another car.

We never bothered with Isofix and never strapped them in When empty either. At one point we used the Britax adventure seats britax adventure
