What do I need to buy for 19kg 3 yr old

He is 104cm tall, 19.3kg and I believe has outgrown his maxi cosi priori. I am also pregnant with spd and really struggling to lift him so something that sits lower would be ideal. Any suggestions?

High backed booster with an adult seatbelt unless you want to buy a seat that has a harness up to 25kg. I'd go for a HBB but get a good quality one.

Yep if he's over 18kg you need a high backed booster. What's your budget and do you have isofix?

If you want to keep him harnessed there are options but they tend to be pricier. How trustworthy is he to sit still and not take his arm out of the seatbelt?

You could look at a britax 2 way elite if you would prefer to still use a harnessed seat as it can be used with the harness rearward or forward facing to 25kg and is quite a tall seat with low sides. I think it is only available from the in car safety centre in the uk.

I would like to spend less than £100. We have Iso fix points but never used them. He is pretty good about staying in the seat.

3 is too young for a HBB, their skeleton is not mature enough to be held by adult seat belt until 4 years old, no matter what the weight or height is. We got the Britain Two Way Elite, you can choose between forward and rear facing, it has a tall shell so will last longer and is harnessed to 25kg. Then when you LO is 4 you can get him a HBB and use the TWE for second baby. The In Car Safety Centre will post for free next day delivery.

My DD is a real chunk and will soon be 18kg, which is when she will be too big for her Klippan Triofix. The advice from the booklet and In Car Safety Centre is that at that point I should use the seat as a HBB with the seat belt?

This explains the high backed booster issue and the reasons they should ideally not be used until your child is at least 4 1/2, regardless of their weight.

A heavy 3 year old should ideally be in a rear facing seat, I believe the cheapest are the Britax Two Way Elite and the Britax MaxWay, but they are both about £220 I think.

This issue is yet another reason why parents deserve a much better service than the high street car seat retailers are providing. Ideally any parent with a heavier-than-average baby who is fast outgrowing their infant carrier should be told about seatbelt-fitted rear facing seats with a 25kgs weight limit and advised that this would be the best and safest option for their baby.

It's about time child seats were only allowed to be sold by specialist retailers such as Securatot or the In Car Safety Centre.

That link talks about 15kg toddlers, not 18kg ones. At 18kg and 104cm they are the size of an average four year old and will be perfectly fine in a booster. The "horns" or "arms" on the booster keep the belt positioned correctly. There is even a booster seat soon to be released which has an anti-submarining strap included (it's already available in the US).

I totally disagree with you. Car seats must be cheap, (not so cheap they are bad quality, but affordable) easy to use and easily available.

Remember that the very biggest factor which makes a difference between life and death is the use of a car seat vs not using one.

And that currently this child is riding in a seat which they have outgrown the weight limit for.

Isofix is good with High backed boosters, because it stops the seat moving around in the car when the child climbs in and out, and it means that you don't need to buckle the seat in when they aren't in it. Without isofix, you should always buckle it. The last thing you'd want in an accident is a huge car seat flying forwards and hitting the driver on the back of the head.

He will be fine in a booster at his size and he really needs to be in the next stage. DS liked that he could do up the seat himself :) If you do let him, you have to make sure that the seatbelt doesn't end up twisted and that the belt goes under the two side hooks to hold it flat over his thighs.

I have just replaced DS's Britax Adventure (cheap HBB because we didn't have a car) with a Cybex Solution and I wish we'd stuck with Britax, TBH, because the Solution doesn't adjust to being as tall as the Britax did. Unfortunately the Britax is damaged so we can't use it any more.

Oh they are not random people, they are mum's who have became car seat expert by doing specific training. If you look under Info, then files it tells you exactly who the admin team are and what training they've had. There is a file called Child outgrown 18kg seat before the age of 4? Or something similar, which explains about maturity of skeleton and there is a link to rear facing toddler.com. They're is a link somewhere to a medical journey to confirm this, I did check! OK. Am still sceptical. I do see the points about RF being safer. I think some of the rest is a little bit overkill. Remember just because somebody uses scary words or makes something sound logical, it doesn't mean that it's true. I can't find any of the information you're referring to on that facebook page.
