Can someone talk me out of my support leg fear

And tell me exactly why the legs don't go smashing through the back or base of the seat and impale the child (obviously not randomly but if you have an accident)

It would seriously widen my choices for my next stage car seat

It has been designed to stabilise and support the car seat, they are well thought out and tested to the British standard (v high). I'm pretty sure this would have been found to be a problem in testing.

If you want to avoid a support leg for your group 1 car seat look at the Britax Trifix and Versafix models which both use a top tether instead.

That's a bit of a random thing to worry about! Why do you think a support leg would do that? I'm sure the seats would not be on sale if this was going to happen.

My two year old is in a Britax Multi Tech rear facing Group 1 seat, it has a support leg. But it's a kind of 'T' shape at the top where it rests against the car seat, so I don't think even the force of an impact would push it through the seat into my daugher's back. The seat itself weighs a ton anyway, it's made of pretty strong plastic and metal.

I know it's irrational. There are very few things that irrationally freak me out one is going to the loo after watching jaws the other is support legs.

The ERF one I'm looking at has a support leg and I was kinda hoping someone who knew their stuff would explain exactly why it won't because if you google "why does a baby seat support leg not impale the baby" you get some very odd results

I'm not sure, but I think the fact that the seat is also held by the seatbelt or ISOFIX prongs will stop it putting too much pressure on the support leg. I guess the leg is just there to 'support' the seatbelt/ISOFIX and it's not the only thing stopping the car seat moving forward in the event of a crash.

(On the subject of irrational fears, I cannot go near, or even look at, a toilet cistern with its lid taken off. Don't know why, but I just have to leave the room!)
