Car seats

Help! Group 1.

DH and I went to investigate car seats yesterday. We had previously been to Halfords (useless) so we tried the Glasgow Pram Centre. We would like a rear facing Group 1 car seat.

DH drives a Nissan Navarra (2 years old) with ISOFIX. I drive a Vauxhall Vectra (12 years old) without ISOFIX. Both sets of GPs have ISOFIX mounts in their cars.

Every single seat fit in DH's car. We couldn't get anything to secure in mine. There seemed to be an issue with the rear seatbelts. The clip in my car comes out from between the seats when the belt is pulled to tighten it. This meant we couldn't get the child seat to sit and be secured by the belt.

So, can seatbelts be changed? Can ISOFIX be retrofitted into such an old Vectra? I have emailed Vauxhall but they replied saying phone the local dealership. I phoned the dealership but no-one there knew.

Do I need to buy a another car?

Bump.

I've been on Autotrader trying to work out which older models may have ISOFIX. Volkswagen seem to have been first, is that correct - 1997? Jaguar X type & Ford Focus can be retrofitted?

Help!

Have you tried calling/emailing InCar Safety centre? They gave me great advice over email when I needed a seat extremely quickly (after a car accident) and couldn't get to a shop. Britax Two way elite fits most cars, or perhaps a britax max way with the additional wedge to raise it and stop buckle crunch?

Thank you. I'll give them a call.

I spoke to Vauxhall again this morning. The parts manager knew the answer. They have a database to show which seats fit in their cars. Using the registration he searched the database.

There are no car seats currently in production that fit in my car. All the models that did fit are no longer manufactured. Question answered. I need yet another car.

But, which make/model do I go for?

The thing is though the Britax two way elite prob wont show up as its an imported seat. Honestly give in car safety centre a call!

I phoned them. Yes, the Two way elite will fit. The official term for the problem in my car is belt crunch Grin I had a look at the video on fitting it. Oh my!

We have decided to change the car. ISOFIX is so much easier.

Many thanks for all your advice.
