Joie stages or Maxi Cosi Axsis as 2nd seat?

I need a car seat for my mums car (Ford Focus) to replace the infant carrier ds is currently in.

DM will have ds 4 days a week, so it will be used quite a lot. I think the axis looks good for her...it will help her back etc. the stages looks good as it is rear facing for longer. But. It does look awkward with the belt there.

Anyone got any thoughts?

We had a Ford Focus and the Axis didn't fit as well as the Tobi. I really wanted it but the difference in fit was really obvious.

Id go to the Stages. Rearfacing is always safer than forward facing even if seat belt a bit awkward.

Alternatively I would spend the extra and get a Britax two way elite. Will last for ages.

Plus rearfacing seats better for bad backs as easier to get in and out without twisting back.

It's hard to find the Britax two way elite though. It pisses me off that the safest seats are harder to get here.

I'm leaning towards the stages. I think I might get that for my car too. I was thinking about the besafe izi combi for my car.

Yes it annoys me too but after campaigning for years we are finally getting RF seats more mainstream!

TWE only available from In car safety centre as they import them.

Joie Stages is a Which "Don't Buy" product due to poor performance in safety testing.

The Axiss gets 60% and is described as "reasonable in side and head-on collisions". The Stages gets 26% as a rear facer due to poor side crash protection, but 55% as a forward facer and is described as average.

Oh. Both out then! Back to the drawing board!

Ill have to have to try hard with the two way elite! I think we make them in this country and then export them, would you believe it? So to buy one, the need to be imported! Madness!

I wouldn't take a blind bit of notice over which? report they classed the maxway as a don't buy and its passed the Swedish pass test!

The Maxway scored well in crash tests when installed correctly, but they classed it as a "Don't Buy" as it was so complicated to fit there was a high chance that parents' wouldn't install it correctly. I think that is a pretty fair point to raise?

Which? Have always said rearfacing seats are hard to fit. I personally think they are not if you follow the instructions the first time or so.

Have a look at Britax Multi Tech and Axkid minikid. Both good long lasting seats too.

I definitely want rear facing for my car, but would prefer to buy and fit a seat in my mums car too, rather then swapping them around. If I want rear facing for both, but the joie stages is rubbish, I'm looking at spending £600 plus! Ouch!

Could you do a daily change ? A TWE is very light and easy to fit quickly with a second set of tethers in place already?

Then you would have time to save up?

The Joie stages isn't a bad seat. Many ERFers have been impressed with it.

I like a rear facing FB page and they have reported great things about the stages and I have been to see it, so I thought it was a go-er, but then I read this thread and I'm not so sure now!

My car has isofix and my mums doesn't. I really like the idea of isofix (although I know there is a school of thought that says rear facing is the key, but I would like rear facing and isofix) so for my car the best I have seen is the besafe combi at £350. It has got one terrible review on John Lewis though.

I have the Two Way Elite in a Focus and it fits well. I ordered it online and fitted it myself with the help.of lots of Youtube instructional videos

Its a very very good seat.

Babyboy12 the Gemm can't forward face as its a Group 0+ infant carrier.

Group 1 onwards can though.

We have the Axiss as our second seat & love it - v easy to get wriggly Houdini in & strapped quickly. Check the website tho as it is not compatible with all cars!
