Which car seat as we don't have a car?

Neither DH nor I can drive and we only travel by car perhaps a handful of times in a year.

DS is 22mo and weighs about 28lb - he's a big lad

We originally had that crap Nania one that has scored so badly on the which tests so I think I want to replace it.

I can't afford a huge amount perhaps max £100. Can anyone recommend a decent group 1-2-3 car seat that'll last, be safer than the one we had and last him until he doesn't need one?

I think you won't go wrong with a main brand, like Britax, Graco or MaxiCosi. Ask in the shop for the one that is "easiest to fit" correctly.

I never understand the stage numbers, but odds are you will have to move him within 2 yrs if he's big for age. You can sell the seat on for a good price as long as you look after it.

I started a similar thread in June and have gone for the Britax First Class, currently on sale for £90 and lasts until age 4.

It is big and bulky (and we needed two) but they look secure and easy to fit and just live in the bike shed.

We've got the Britax Evolva - you use it with a harness to start with and then when they get too big for that you remove it and use it as a high back booster. Ds3 is a big 6 yo and still in it - it will see him through to just using a booster cushion or not needing a car seat at all.

I would prefer one that can move along to a high back booster as opposed to one that lasts until 4yo.

I'm trying to figure out the same prob. Need a stage 1 carseat for my 14 month old. She weighs about 11kg and has just outgrown, by height, her infant carrier.

I wanted to keep her rearfacing as long as possible but it seems difficult: the seats are big and heavy and don't seem to fit in different cars well.

We frequently borrow my mum's car (big, with isofix) and sometimes hire cars (tiny, eg peugeot 106). We are going to be buying a car soon, it'll be a very old thing so no isofix.

Help! any ideas?

Tried a britax first class plus at halfords today, it fitted my mum's car rearfacing but only just.
