Maxi cosi website says this wont fit our car yet Halfords say it will!

I really want to buy the Maxi Cosi Cabriofix infant seat but don't have Isofix so thought we could buy the Easybase 2. Maxi cosi website says the cabriofix will only fit without a base yet when we went into Halfords they said the base is universal so will fit ok. ( they wouldn't try it unless we were going to buy it but how we are supposed to buy it without knowing it will fit I've no idea! Their prices were much higher than anywhere else so we realised fairly quickly that we probably wouldn't buy from them anyway)

We have a 5 seater car but it is classed as an SUV for some reason so has plenty of leg room. Only issue I can think of is that the 3 rear seats are individual rather than bench style so may and be slightly raised at the edges...

Any advice would be much appreciated- I'm not sure where else to go to get car seats fitted and already have the pram I want to use the cabriofix with!

It might be if your car has floor storage? Little floor cubbies? My Scenic does, and that affects the support leg of the base?

Oh it does have storage boxes, maybe that is why...

Yup, that'll be it. As the floor isn't solid the leg won't be secure. What about the middle seat? I think it might be okay if the floor there is solid?

While the bases are a huge help, you do learn how to strap in using the belt fairly quickly and will still be very secure and just as safe (just a bit of a faff!)

I could try it in the middle seat, ave a feeling it's a little narrower though.

This is dc3 and one thing I remember about the first three is faffing about with seat belts!

I was going to suggest the same. We have a Xsara Picasso, an issue. The advice we've had is conflicting too. The seat we want (Pebble) didn't appear to fit our car at all according to Maxi Cosi's website, with or without a base.

We already have a base from our old car, and it seems to fit fine. It also reaches the floor of the car when the storage boxes are open. Some sources seem to say that this is safe, while others don't.

Maxi Cosi say we should take it to Mothercare or Halfords to see if the seat we want will fit or not, as they didn't have the data (?), but that a qualified fitter would know. I didn't realise you had to buy from them though - doesn't give much room for looking for the best deal!

Ahhh, open the cubbies! Sounds like the plan to me? John Lewis are great at car seat advice and I don't think you have to buy?

Looks like our options are limited. Might try to fit one with the lid of the storage open and hope its long enough to reach the bottom but need someone official to confirm that is ok!

We were the same with our cmax. Why do they put blooming storage in the floor! We've never used it. You could maybe fit a thomsons local in ours!

I've just read online that if your rear seats are sliding you can bring it to the furthest point so that the leg is between the storage and the front seat?

I keep a slim de-icer in mine... thanks for that Renault

I have a CMax and I used the middle seat and it fitted really well. I did loads of research on it though. I believe you can buy solid inserts for the floor storage.

Firstly your local halfords should try the seat before you buy it.

Secondly do not expect them to even look for storage boxes...I asked them to try a base in the middle seat. The fitter being cocky popped in it to an outside seat and said there you are all fitted. Mmmmm so thats safe is it? Yes he replied. So i pointed out the storage box that was easy to see and he said I should have told him....mmm no you should have looked as you are the fitter and I may not have know about storage boxes. And thats why I wanted you to fit it in the middle!

KatoPotato- Good advice about the sliding seat it often does the trick.

What car is it? Ford and VW do fillers for the storage boxes

Storage boxes can be filled. You might be able to eat a specific filler from you car manufacturer. They are usually made of polystyrene and just sit in the storage box. I have spoken to a couple of seat manufacturers and they often advise if not available you can make your own either by cutting down polystyrene, or, apparently, old phone books are pretty good for this.
