Rear side air-bags and baby car seats - ford fiesta dealers say it's ok....is it?

DM has ford fiesta. It's a 2012 reg lease car. When she picked it up she asked about the rear airbags being disabled so she could have DD in her car. The dealers said that the side air bags were fine, so long as the car seat wasn't touching the door.
I am not 100% happy about their reasoning; surely they are either dangerous or not and it shouldn't matter what position the seat is in. I wondered if it was just some salesman fobbing my mum off.
Can anyone reassure me and tell me whether or not you have had your airbags disabled.
Thanks

Hi

Most newer cars now have side airbags. Just like the salesman said, make sure the seat doesn't rest against the door. Should be no problem.
Go to www.childcarseats.org.uk/choosing/airbags.htm for more info.
