Nania Teamtex (Asda baby event) seems to move around in car a lot...anyone?

I purchased the Asda Nania Teamtex Trio carseat as a second one, mainly for in the nanny's car, and proudly delivered it to the nanny today. When I went to collect DD (9mo) the nanny had stayed in all day because she felt the seat was unsafe in the car. We had a look at it together and when we follow the instructions for how to belt it into place it seems to move around on the actual seat of the car a lot, it doesn't feel very secure. Both of us thought that it needed to sit more securely in place. I'm sure it would prevent the seat from being flung forward on impact and protect DD in that respect but it looked like it would swing from side to side if the car so much as turned the corner.

Is this just us being overly paranoid? We followed the instructions for installing the seat to the letter and I can't believe that it is supposed to move like that, but I know we didn't fit it wrong. Could it be the make of the car that's the problem? It's a Vauxhall Zafira.

Does anyone else have experience with this particular seat and would they recommend it, does it sound normal, should I return it, am I just being very pfb about the whole thing? Our main seat is on an isofix base so I don't have eny experience of seat belting seats into cars!

when I worked at mothercare (I'm not there now, don't flame me) we sold one very similar

you need to put all your weight onto the seat while you are pulling the seatbelt tight and then they will sit very securely -I used to literally lay across the seat while pulling the seat belt tight

is it a new zafira with buckles set into the seat or are the buckles on stalks? -old model zafiras didn't used to be compatible on the back row of seats but were ok in the middle

I've found the Nania seats in general to be quite flimsy and not seeming very secure and others have had this experience (that I've come across online) too. In fact that looks exactly like the one DS has at his childminders and I always think it seems to move about a lot too, and the straps are difficult to tighten. Luckily he's now outgrown it and is in a high backed booster and I feel much safer, I was only happy with that seat because she only did local journeys no more than 30mph.

I wouldn't touch that make with a bargepole. I'd shop around for offers on other car seats or if I was going to use an "unbranded" seat (e.g. Mothercare's own) I'd ask to have a look at the markings to see which company had actually manufactured the seat - we had the Mothercare infant car seat which was manufactured by Dorel, ie, Maxi Cosi, and I was very happy with that.

Oh my mistake, DS's childminder doesn't have that one, it's just a Group 0+1 seat not a 0/1/2. In fact that's another thing which would make me feel wary about it, because how can it possibly perform well for all three groups when they are so different? I'd be suspicious.

Also always worth checking out negative reviews on products - you can tell usually if someone has just had a bad experience with delivery etc, was using it wrong, or when they've had a genuine problem.

I looked at the reviews on the Asda website and most of the negatives were suggesting that they were mainly happy with it but they thought it should have more padding. I figured for a seat that she won't be doing long journeys the padding wouldn't be a problem. I haven't found any reviews that say it doesn't fit securely. Might look at the Mamas and Papas one they have at Asda instead and see if I can swap it.

I had this problem with a branded carseat I bought from Mothercare. I brought it back and two people tried unsuccessfully to make it secure before a rather larger shop assistant managed it. When you are tightening the straps you need to actually kneel inside the carseat itself with your feet off the ground; your weight pushes it down into the car cushion and you can then pull more seatbelt through.

That said, I still couldn't do it so swapped it for a different one.

I would take your nanny with you and check which ever sea you buy fits her car. No seat is universal

I wouldn't use that seat either. They are so flimsy.

Like a previous poster said a zafira easily buckle crunches. Lethal in an accident.

I would watch a video on rearfacing.co.uk and then go to an independent retailer.

Or keep her in her baby seat.

Also you state most people in the reviews haven't said it's fitted properly. That's probably because they dont know how to or have never heard of buckle crunch.

Our police offer a free car seat service where they check the seat and advise on 'best' fit. I would def recommend it if your police offer a similar service. I got in touch with the Road Safety Officer to get an appointment.

I have never seen a nania seat so can't comment but I have read some bad reviews.
One seat that is probably worth considering though ia the new Joie Stages from Babies R Us. It rearfaces to 18kg but forward faces too and then the harness tucks neatly inside and the seat expands to become a high back booster to 25kg (age 6ish).It's 129.99 at the moment I think but there are fairly frequent 20% events plus usually can pick up a catalogue with some vouchers in. Despite being slightly car seat obsessed I can't come up with a good reason to buy one but I had a good look at one yesterday and it's nicely padded, seems comfy and sturdy and is neatly designed with good seatbelt routing for installation. I want one & especially as they are such good value it seems silly not to buy one. Just need someone's car to put it in....
