8 month old needs new carseat but we don't have a car!

any advice greatly appreciated as very confused.

We live in London & don't have a car. We only use a carseat when we get the train to visit relatives. We have a maxi cosi that we attach to our bugaboo bee+ base. This is very handy as we can use the carseat when relatives pick us up from the station and when out and about outside of London. Now DS is 8m old & is growing out of the carseat.

Are there similar carseat that will attach to the pram for older babies? (ie similar to the maxicosi) or do we have to carry a massive carseat separately on the train along with the pram (and everything else).

Any suggestion/advice appreciated

You have to carry massive carseat with you. It's a pain in the arse.

More helpfully - we went for getting a carseat to keep at both sets of grandparents. We also had one with us in London for dragging around when we weren't going to the grandparents.

There is no next stage car seat that will attach to a frame.

By growing out of the seat, do you mean that he is nearing29lb/13kg weight and his head is out of the top? O just that his feet are a dangling a little bit over the edge of the seat?

For some reason I thought the maxi cosi were only for 0-6 months. DS actually only weighs 9kg so I probably have another few month left with the maxi cosi.

Not looking forward to moving to the next stage carseat though. It will make my wkend trips to see my mum with DS a nightmare. It is already a struggle carrying everything as it is (I travel alone with DS & all the paraphenalia - I won't be able carry a caraway aswell)

They can stay in the little carseats til too heavy or head poking over top. Whichever comes first.

How about your mum buys a carseat to keep at hers?

benne81 · 01/06/2012 22:15

Yep I think that's going to be the best option - I will have to buy quite a few (PIL, Mum, Dad & stepmum) - can you buy carseats secondhand or is that s big no no?

I really wouldn't. Car seats and mattresses I would never buy second hand.

You cannot be sure how they will have been treated, how old they are, how they have been stored, how clean they are( although that matters least) or whether they will actually fit the cars.
