Rear-facing car seats

DS is getting to that point where we have to think about getting the next stage car seat. Even though DH will still need some convincing, I really want a rear-facing one. What models have you used and what is your experience with them?
One of our problem is that we have 2 cars, and really need both set up to ferry DS around. At the moment, we have a Maxi Cosi car seat and an Isofix base in each car, allowing us flexibility. We bought one base and the car seat new and got the second base second-hand, so it wasn't too much of a strain financually. But I'm assuming that won't be possible with the next car seat (happy to be proven wrong!). Do we really have to consider buying 2 seats (gulp)...?

I have a TWE and 2 sets of tethers. The seat is very quick to install, I don't think it takes any longer to install than a regular group 1 seat. Once you've done it a few times, it takes minutes to install.
DS is rear facing at 2.5yrs now and still very happy. His 7 year old sister stil rides in her TWE (forward facing) so it is a versatile seat.

Hiya ?. what car do you drive ? and do you have isofix in both cars ?
If you have underfloor storage then you can still consider the Besafe which offers a solution to the underfloor storage issue or have a look at the Klippan Triofix.

The Triofix is an expensive seat BUT its will last you up to 36kgs because it will become your high back booster seat, its REALLY quick to install - on isofix you can do it in less than 10 seconds ! honestly ! it can go in a car with and without isofix and there are no tether straps to install. Definitely worth a consider, you can buy a separate base for the second car but to be honest its so easy to install that I would not bother and save some cash ! on another plus it takes up the same, if not less space than an infant carrier so maximises front passenger leg space.

I've got a Volvo V40 (quite old, T reg), and my husband has a 2008 BMW 320d (I think that's what it's called...). He's got Isofix, I don't.

We've had a look at the TWE and really like it. And it's a lot less expensive than some of the other seats, so we could even consider getting one for each car! I think we will get it for our holiday in France in the summer...

Please find somewhere to try the seats in your cars rather than assuming they'll fit. We wanted a Besafe Izi Kid but found it doesn't fit in our Seat Leon, well not if you want to use the front passenger seat.

We have a Britax Maxway which isn't heavy and is simple to fit but it was expensive.
