Car seat for grandparent's car

Hi,

Am looking for suggestions for a good value car seat for a grandparent's car so they can help with the occasional pick up from nursery etc. DS will be 5 months when he starts nursery. We currently have Maxi Cosi Pebble and are very pleased with it.

Do you think we should go for a combination seat, or stick with this stage car seat?

What good value options are there out there? (Don't want to compromise on safety).

Thanks in advance for your help and advice.

We've got this one Baby Weavers Car Seat in our car and my parents - used it rear facing to start when DD was about 11 months old, then forward facing. The reclining function is excellent for reluctant car seat sleepers and stops their little heads lolling about and falling forward when they do nod off.

I had a problem with the seat belt alarm (it went off randomly even when it was fastened up) but it was resolved immediately by Kiddicare.com who sent me a replacement buckle in the post.

Great value for money, funky design/choice of colours and will last until she's 4. Whether you decide to stick to the 0+ stage seat is up to you, but trying to get DD into her Stage 0 + seat during the winter with a big snowsuit on was like trying to get a sumo wrestler into a size 8 dress. She was much happier in the larger seat.

i would go with the safest you can afford.

can they use the pebble in their car? if so would it be plausible to leave the seat at nursery and they just use it to take baby home? or do you really need one to keep in their car?

you might want to consider an ERF seat if you haven't already Rear-facing car seats

hi, could you give the gps the pebble seat and you could get a erf seat? it would save you money in the ling term and save you having to go and buy another 2 seats when ds outgrows the baby seats. i can recommend a britax hi-way or britax two way elite. have both and they are really good, light and easy to use seats.

What car do they have?

I like nicm's idea. I think I'd get a besafe izi combi for your car (rear facing from birth to 3 or 4 years (though I'd only use it from 5/6 months to be honest as it is more upright than an infant carrier) and put the pebble in GPs car. Then when baby grows out of the pebble you could get something like the babyweavers one linked above for GPs car and you keep the much safer rear facing seat in your car.

I have two izi combi's for my twins and think they're great. Easy to use and not a total PITA to move between cars (though I wouldn't want to move them very often as they are heavy).

Wow thank you so much for all the responses!

Unfortunately, leaving the car seat at nursery isn't really an option as the grandparent pick-ups will only be in emergencies where I get caught up at work.

We have a little Fiesta, and grandparents have a Focus (but the one with the boot if you know what I mean).

I haven't discussed ERF with DH at all...maybe a discussion for this weekend. In my mind, I was planning on getting the next stage car seat after the pebble and by that time perhaps DC2 would be on the way! Not sure if wishful thinking, but anyway!

In a way I was thinking that it makes more sense for grandparents to have one that suits all ages as I have lots of nieces and nephews and it would mean they could help out with that too (at the moment they only have a couple of booster seats for my oldest nephews).

So much food for thought, as always!! Thanks so much for taking the time to reply.

Maybe somthing like the Britax First class for gps car? This is RF birth-13kg and FF 9-18kg (although id keep it rf to the full 13kg).
