car seat for 4 year old with harness and isofix?

I need to keep him harnessed in, would prefer isofix and would prefer seat recline too.

I really don't think so unless you illegally import a seat from the US!

The Britax Two Way Elite will harness rfing or ffing until 25kg but it doesn't have a recline function. This is the only seat the reasonable side of £600 that harnesses ffing above 18kg in the UK (the SN seat Britax Traveller Si is £600).

You can get seats that rf to 25kg - Britax Multi-tech, Maxi-Cosi Mobi and Britax Hi-Way but they are all seat belt installation.

I couldn't find one.

The best we came up with was the Britax Nordic Elite, but we couldn't get one.

Without the isofix you could get the britax two way elite, britax hi-way, britax multitech, maxi cosi mobi, but they are rear facing up to 25 kgs harnessed. The two way elite however can go ff harnessed up to 25 kgs. It does recline slightly I think (could check the instructions for you later)but it is preset when you install it iykwim.

If you forget the Isofix then go with the Two Way Elite. My DD was harnessed until 6.5yrs in hers. She finally outgrew it height wise rather than reaching the limit on the weight. She's only about 18kgs so had plenty of leeway with the weight.
She was always very comfortable in it. It does have a recline but you have to install it that way, not use a lever. It it very quick to install and lightweight so can be transfered easily between cars.

Forgot to add. How heavy is your DD?
Something like the Britax Evolva 123 will harness to 18kgs and then turn into a booster seat. This was our back up seat, but DD was too tall for the straps by the age of 5.5yrs...hence we carried on using the Two Way Elite.

yeah, he's about 18kg now, been that weight for a while now. he's not that tall though. Spoke to the guy in Mothercare who seemed to think he was fine in his current seat as long as his shoulders weren't higher than the harness.

I'm going to have to give way on something.

The thing is if he is 18kg he's at the max for any harnessed seat in the UK, (other than those mentioned that go to 25kg) harness height irrespective.

If he's 18kg without clothes add in a pair of jeans, a jumper and a pair of shoes and he's heavier than that the seat might not work properly (seats are tested at only 30mph at the max weight - what happens if you have a smash at 70mph if he's 20kg with clothes/shoes on?).

I know truthsweet, I have to weigh that up against him wriggling out of a seat at 70mph on the motorway, or getting out to get something he has dropped.

i am seriously looking to import a seat like the sunshine kids radian from the US, or one of the britax ones.

i can't find a definite answer as to wtherh they are illegal to use over here though.
it would seem that car seats that do not meet eu (?) standards are illegal. someone on here told me that all the sunshine kids seats DO meet these standards, but they don't have the stamp on to prove this.
now, the person who told me that could be mistaken, but equally could be right

i can't imagine a situation where anyone would be able to tell just from looking that it wasn't a seat made over here though, I am guessing that police aren't going to pull me over for my car seat!

it's a risk I am willing to take though, to ensure my kids are as safe as possible.
right now ds2 is in the britax 2 way elite, but I may need this soon for ds3 who is currently in the besafe

If he is 18kg at 4 years he should get at least a few years out of the TWE (DD1 was 19kg at 4 and in the TWE and 20kg at 5 when she went into a Sunshine Kids Monterey HBB, 8 months on she is still 20kg) as growth does slow as they get older.

Or you could try to get a US seat imported and hope for the best in case you had an accident (from an insurance point of view not safety).

Or you could try booster training to see how your DS does. We did this with DD1 (and will be doing it with DD2 soon as she is 17kg and her spare seat only harnesses to 18kg) and she does not wriggle, sits upright in her seat and does not fiddle with the belt or buckle (on pain of death - literally!).
