I am going to blame pregnancy brain for this as I am getting confused. When you buy the car seat do you have to buy a separate base as well?

Not necessary but convenient as it saves fiddling around with the seat belt every time. Depends how often a day you will be in and out of the car.

I have an Isofix base for my Cabriofix and wouldn't be without it as we have school runs etc to do and it means it is slightly quicker when loading multiple kids into the car.

no you don't need one. i have been a childminder for nearly 10 years and have had my own 2 and never had a base. it makes no difference to rf seats being isofix or not as long as it is installed correctly. i did consider getting one for dc2 but it would have been a waste as i moved him at 7 months to his next car seat!

:)
