Britax Adventure - Any good for back up/spare/emergency seat for a 5y/o?

DD1 has almost grown out of her spare car seat (Premamman own brand harnessed to high back booster) even though she's only just turned 5y/o Shock. She's tall/big but not exceptionally so at 113cm & 20kg so I would have expected to last until at least 8.

I am not getting a no-back booster or taking the back of it (DD2 can have it with the harness put back in it) so need a new seat. We need a decent spare as I don't drive and DD1's friends take her out on occasion, MIL takes us out or for taxi/ambulances (a frequent occurrence in my life unfortunately).

I had a browse in Mothercare today as they have a sale on and the Britax Adventure was the cheapest and tallest with a torso height of 21.5" vs the Graco Junior Maxi which was the next highest at 20".

She rides in a Sunshine Kids Monterey in DH's car which she/we love but we can't justify a spare car seat costing £70 when it might get used 10 times a year.

Does anyone use the Adventure and what sort of life span does it have? Is is a good seat and does it fit in a lot of cars? Any it doesn't fit into?

As good as the monterey. Better make may have done better in which tests.

we have it and can't fault it tbh. good head support/side impact protection. i think it did well in Which? reports, but don't quote me on that
it's height adjustable and ds1 doesn't have it on the highest setting yet and he is 6
fits in every car i've used it in (all 2 of them)

it's also half price in halfords atm

thisisyesterday · 29/04/2011 20:19

although... good price?

TruthSweet · 29/04/2011 20:19

I'm just worried about lack of side impact protection on the higher settings as the Monterey's 'wings' still cover quite a bit on the top setting which is higher than the Adventure's.

Or am I just being a fusspot and it wouldn't matter that much at 9 or 10?

also, the adventure is the same seat as the evolva 2-3 and the hi-liner.

so if you're looking around for a good price then might be worth searching for those as well

Oh TIY! DD1 will just complain it's not flaming pink!

TruthSweet · 29/04/2011 20:26

That is the seat I bought DS (5) as I found the britax evolva too hard to use as we do not have a car so I have to take it in and out of car club / hire cars / taxis etc. DS seems v comfy in it and I am confident that it is substantial enough

I am very happy with it. IMO it is just a easier to manouvre evlova? Recommend it.

we have 2 hi-liners (same as the adventure) for our two, they are very heavily used, and have no complaints here at all,the head support is a very good shape for when they fall asleep.
we have the pink polka one from halfords for our 5yo dd,she loves it,they are £30 in halfords atm :)
