Which Newborn car seat will fit a P reg Golf CL (1997)?

Hi, I'm attempting to buy a car seat for my newborn that will fit in my 1997 Golf. I had my heart set on Maxi Cosi CabrioFix (most recommended, good safety, ease of use) but it looks (from the Maxi Cosi website) that it won't fit in older cars.

Has anyone got a Maxi Cosi in an older VW?
Can anyone recommend a similarly good car seat? Or even a good source of info for which seats fit older models of cars.

I have a P reg Polo CL and the car seat I use is a Maxi Cosi and it does fit ok, the only thing I had to do was to make sure the passenger car seat was pulled all the way back so the seat belt would fit around it.

Thanks myflabberisgasted, do you mean the front passenger seat. Does it fit in the back seat aswell?

Sorry yes I meant the front passenger seat!

I haven't tried mine in the back seat as I only have a 3 door car so it's a bit awkward trying to fit it in the back. I imagine it would fit though.
