Nissan Micra and car-seat

I have a Maxi Cosi car-seat.
Mu mum has told me today that 'you can't put a car seat in the back seat of a nissan micra' (!!) but that I could have it in the front.

Is she right?!

I guess it might depend on the version of micra and also size of car seat but my friend has an old style micra and has 2 child seats in the back (one front facing and one rear facing). If it fits I don't see why you can't have it in the back.
I think you can put car-seat's in the front as long as you don't have passenger air-bags or if they can be turned off.

If it is because of buckle crunch, which is when the buckle is so long you can't put the car seat in the car tight. then it is different in every car even the same make. When we were looking to get a second stage seat for a zafra (quite a few years ago now. I couldn't find one that I was happy with. I did find a britax seat but as it was a close call as to it fitting. fitting it broke it so I had to have her in the third row until we changed the company car. I have herd of no one else heaving problems since with that make of car. I would try fitting it and check. If it is a stage o rearward facing carseat and it is a two door car your mum may have said this as it may be tricky a base for the seat can help with this.

Which micra is it, I had a fairly old one -2002 I think and it had iso fix

DuelingFanjo · 19/09/2010 17:23

It's a T reg (1999?)

I have tried the car-seat and it does fit and I've checked the online instruction videos over and over and think it's all ok. I think the issue might be the length of the seatbelt as it's a very tight fit.

It's a stage one seat but without the base, it just goes in with the seatbelt around the front and back.

ps... I just got confused cos my mum said 'you can't put a carseat in the back of a nissan micra' as if it were gospel but when I asked why she didn't seem to know. I know she used to have a nissan micra herself but not sure how she would know about car-seats.

I reckon some baby seats wouldn't fit in due to the length of the seat belt but as your's does phew!

BertieBotts · 22/09/2010 14:30

The baby seats will be absolutely fine. You might have to push the front seat forward. My friend has a Nissan Micra and I had DS in there in the back behind the drivers' seat, there was only just enough room (and friend is not tall).

You definitely can't have it in the front seat, unless you can disable the airbag.

When you get to the next stage of car seat you'll probably have to shop around though.

Maybe your mum was thinking about the older types of carseats?

mousymouse · 22/09/2010 14:38

we used to have a micra (1993) and a carseat would not fit, because in the back row the belts were shorter than normal adult belt.
no isofix.
we had to get a seat with a base (a graco one) that fit fine.
with the next stage seat we got a maxi cosy toby, as the others where the belt only is in the back of the seat were wobbly.
you just have to try different seats.

I have a 2001 Micra and have never had any problems with car seats. Thankfully we are just on boosters now, but I have had the car since both dc were babies. The only thing that I couldn't fit in my car was a double buggy, but that was my fault for not getting an umbrella fold.

Bobby99 · 25/10/2010 16:12

I have a 2000 Micra and am looking for a car seat now for my 10mo DD as she is getting too big for her rear facing seat. Sorry to but in on your thread, but can anyone recommend a seat that fit their Micra? I'm going to Mothercare soon to see what they can try to fit, but their range is rather limited.

nicm · 25/10/2010 18:51

bobby have you looked at the erf seats? 10 montsh is a bit young to be ff. details on www.rearfacing.co.uk i have a britax two way elite and have used it in a clio, fiesta, etc so it fits in smaller cars although there may be others that fit in your car.

:)

Hi i have micra 2003 and we are having difficulties with finding the right forward facing car seat. We've been to mothercare today to try few. The problem is not the size of the car but the back seat being too soft!!! We tried 2 different maxi cosi seats and they were bouncing to much on the back seat... apparently...
Anyone had problems with too soft back seats?
