Lung cancer - CT scan

Wondering if anyone knows the answer to this.

My partner is on the two week pathway for lung cancer. The GP wasn't sure if it was that (family history) or copd or something else.
He had his CT scan done early Friday morning, he was in and out really quick they said to him if they find anything serious they will be in contact.
Hes heard nothing so far, is that good news?

His mum was diagnosed with lung cancer at the same hostipal and they pretty much told her straight away.

He had the CT Friday morning and you're thinking he'd have heard by Sunday teatime?

I'm sorry but it's likely that his results will be discussed at a panel either way before they contact him - typically these take place weekly with a whole team of people involved. You need to give it at least a week I'm afraid.

Thought that was the case. The worse part is that they skipped the x ray so don't have anything to go on. They were actually thinking its COPD (the test for that is next week) but said doing it this way rules out cancer. His bloods are fine and he doesn't have any stereotypical symptoms like weight loss or coughing up blood his cough just comes and goes its more on the morning or when hes doing things like boxing. Still terrifying.

Sorry but can I ask if its not cancer will the GP still ring and let him know? Or will they just leave it for his copd results and tell us then its not cancer.

CT scan results take usually 2, maybe 3 weeks. If cancer, he would likely be brought into hospital for an appointment with a specialist for the results. I doubt it would be handled by the GP. If no evidence of cancer on the CT, it may bounce back to the GP for other referrals. I don’t know if the GP would ring or have him book in for an appointment. If not cancer, it probably wouldn’t be super urgent and they’d probably have him just book for another appointment to discuss next steps.

I had one of these scans was quite amazed when I looked on my NHS app a couple of days later for the results of routine blood test that the results from the scan where also there. Letter on post came after about 4 weeks

My DH had one of these recently. The wait for results was terrifying! It wasn’t cancer, just an infection. The hospital
sent a letter in the post with the result in, and follow up action for the infection.

It took a week from CT scan to receiving the letter.

Good luck!

Do you have the. NHS app? Or does your hospital have an app?

All my results come through like this. I get an SMS telling me to log in when my results are live.

I'm not sure that abnormal results come through in the same way because I got a phone call in that case, but good news should show up.

Abnormal results are embargoed to stop people finding out by opening the app.
